The TX RZ50 stands out as a strong value AVR for smaller to medium rooms, with Dirac Live onboard, guided setup menus, and enough power to drive demanding speakers cleanly. It is praised for clear, cohesive sound, easy calibration, and solid performance at concert levels, with some owners calling it hard to beat near this price. The main tradeoffs are that the extra two channels matter only if you need them, and reliability and retailer handling have raised concerns in a few firsthand reports. A good fit when you want Dirac and 9.2 channel flexibility without stepping up to RZ70 pricing.

  • Adorama returns can involve delays and deductions such as a 15% restocking fee for items treated as used.

  • Open-box shipments can arrive with physical damage such as broken antennas, dents, and missing protective packing.

  • HDMI behavior can be inconsistent, including trouble with 4K120 versus 4K30 on specific setups.

  • Reliability can be a concern, since an RZ50 can shut down after warranty with a 2L2R warning.

Well...you always get what you pay for...
Based on folks who have experience with this vendor, it seems like selling used products for new and then charging return shipping will always be a reality as long as SD exists. Don't forget the SD cheerleaders who never saw a bad AVR and constantly in "selling mode" while pretending to give advice to your benefit.
GreyRecess is kinda going backwards in the AVR dept: the SR875 was 140W into 2ch and the RZ30 is 100W into 2ch. A good modern comp would be the RZ70 but especially w/tariffs, the pricing is still a bit tough to swallow.
All I know is that this works for me and my setup. My Onkyo 875 died, so bring it up to compare is pointless. The RZ50 is 120W into 2ch, not the 100W you cite. It makes them sing and come to life at concert level volumes which is what I want. If I eventually need more power to my Towers and my GE Supercenter XL. The RZ50 is simple to add a 3 channel amp and move into a dedicated 7.2.4 setup for a modest cost. This is a lot of receiver for $850 IMO. Hopefully, it lastsSmilie
Good luck to everyone who is enjoying this purchase, like I am!!

I thought I was referring to GreyRecess8748. You post for the first time in this thread and also have an 875? Is this your 2nd, 3rd, etc. account?

Yes, your correction to 120W into 2 channels is valid for the RZ50. I generally don't buy "backwards" as the years go on. The expectation is you get better equipment as you have more disposable income, etc.

Yes there are plenty of other owners that feel the same as you.

Yes power is easily negated, imo for the better in the long run.
Thats why better power as better equipment isn't a good measuring stick.
Better features needed is(ie RC,4k/8k,2.1, etc).

FYI if you do switch to 7.2.4.
Keep in mind channels 10 & 11 aren't assignable, so they need to be powered externally and the sub outs are mono/parallel.

I got a RZ30 about a month ago and the Bluetooth transmitter doesn't work. I consider myself lucky because everything else is fine. It's a keeper! Onkyo probably figured out that people only use a subset of features, so a higher defect rate doesn't affect their business, especially combined with return shipping costs and restocking fees. Did I mention that the UI is trash and so is the OSD? Or that the HDMI inputs are trash too and perfectly good cables that work in 4K 120Hz 10 bit RGB connected to the TV only work in 4K 30Hz 10 bit RGB on the Onkyo? Yes the port is set to 8K Enhanced. But the sound is good, right? Well, mostly. Sometimes it starts to glitch and doesn't stop until I switch inputs back and forth, then it's fine. Besides these issues, I love it! I'm sure the next firmware update will fix everything.

EDIT: I got a firmware update literally an hour after writing this comment and whaddya know the Bluetooth issue is resolved! I can't believe it!

Rz30 It feels like it is built very poorly coming from Yamaha and Denon. I am curious about the rz50 though. All have their issues but rz30 just felt cheap and fragile. I posted previously about the hdmi issues and return policies of Adorama. Cant believe they ship it in manufacturer box for the world to see what's inside and steal. If an empty box shows up and you didn't buy their shipping insurance at checkout,,,, you are completely out of luck. If you did buy it then you get to deal with the 3rd party insurance they sell to cover it. Not a good store

I owned the Onkyo RZ50 for about 18 months
Bought it at the Best Buy outlet open box and sold it for what I paid 18 months later

For this money..if you have a smaller to medium sized room and are not trying to create gym sized SPL then I dont know of another AVR that comes close to this price all in...for the sonics it can provide

Unless the Integra 3.4 comes back at sub $600..IMO this is the real deal

if you want a " feel" and dont want to spend RZ70 money I say go for it

There are people on AVS forum that bought this unit when it first came out in 2021 that are very happy

I would also suspect they ask for a signature at delivery so I doubt this would be as exposed as you suggest

Let me also add that my rec of the RZ70 (if you can afford it) is specifically because there is no power limiting on low impedance loads as pointed out in the Audioholics review. Why did Gene specifically call this out? If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, do yourself a favor and read Audio Science Review's benchmark of the RZ50...
Gene also called out the Sinad numbers as well

Which are very good on the RZ70...and not so good on other units that failed Audio Science reviews testing

Anyone who downvotes you either works for Adorama, boosts for Adorama, or gets a commission from SD (of which I'm sure some are lurking in this thread). It took a couple of years but I finally realized that SD benefits vendors more than it does the consumer looking for a deal!

I think he's asking if the physical build quality is any better on the 50 versus 30, not if the 30 is a good deal. I had the same question about the 30, 50, 70. Sometimes, in general, a company will use different materials on different models.

I understand
I have not personally owned the 30 or the 70

However I have owned the 50 , the Pioneer LX805 and the Integra 8.4
The 70 shares the same amp/power supply of the Pioneer and Integra models and they all weigh within 2 lbs of each other

In no way does the 50 have " feel" of the higher end units, IMO
Those units also have much more premium remote than the 50

I would also argue there is nothing in the market that has the feel of the higher end units at anywhere close to their price point

However, looking at price point, I dont think anyone would be disappointed with the " feel" of the 50

There have been Asian websites w/pics of the innards of the RZ50 and the RZ30. The parts are about 90% the same and you may get slightly better capacitors in the RZ50 (in addition to better power supply) but that's about it. What you should be asking is if the RZ30 suffers from the same "limp mode" as its brethren. This has been the most requested test on forums like ASR and AVS but no one has submitted a unit to Amir for his round of bench tests. The RZ70 is a different beast and has much better parts (including the DAC) than the lower RZ series models.

Thank you. Can you comment on which other brand's models have a more premium remote? The old Onkyo remotes were nice, but these look bare bones.

Owners dont seem to be complaining about power issues with the RZ50..Many of whom that have owned the AVR since 2021

Actual ownership can be your friend on knowledge

I suggest anyone looking to buy the RZ50 read the owners thread on AVS forum
Lots of actual ownership tips and tricks and a lot less speculation/conjecture

My TX-RZ50 just broke after 3 years and 5 months. 5 months out of warranty. The previous Yamaha unit that I have, still runs strong.

I am getting 2L2R warning and the unit shuts down immediately. It seems like the opamp for those two channels are shot.

Otherwise I loved the unit running 7.2.4 speaker setup (two channels were being powered by the Yamaha unit using Onkyo's pre-out). Dirac setup really makes a difference.

Maybe at this discounted price I would risk the reliability issues but at the full price I paid, I can't recommend it.
