The Beard Club straight razor is a budget shavette for learning classic wet shaving and getting very close edge work, especially for sideburns and lineups. It can work well with shaving gel or foam, but it takes practice with the blade angle and careful handling because cuts happen fast. The included five blades may feel light compared with other bundles, and the low-cost build and packaging drew criticism. A safety razor or replaceable double edge razor was described as easier and cheaper to live with.

Common Questions (4)

  • It has a steep learning curve and can cut you quickly if you rush. Slow strokes, practicing the blade angle, and watching technique videos help, and shaving gel or foam can make it easier to control.

  • A safety razor is easier to use, cheaper to maintain, and has inexpensive replacement blades. The straight razor can give an extremely close shave and is useful for lining up sideburns, but it requires more skill and has no safety bar.

  • The handle and clasp were criticized as machine-stamped and loose on similar inexpensive shavettes, which can reduce confidence during use. It also reportedly arrived in a small plastic bag rather than a box, so presentation and perceived quality may be basic.

  • It includes 5 replaceable stainless steel blades, but the included blades may not last long if you shave often. One comparison mentioned similar options with 100 replacement blades for about $1 more, which may be better value if you want more spares.

Wet shaver here, own many handles, blades, etc. I own one shavette, it is made by Parker, and I one time bought a second super inexpensive shavette and promptly returned it because a few things didn't feel good about it. The clasp holding the two pieces together that hold the blade felt very loose and that instantly made me lose confidence in the shavette. I don't know if the quality of this exact one, but if it is like that, I would probably skip.

Having said that, it's not bad to learn how to use one of these. You'll get an incredibly close shave that can't be matched (it's literally blade on skin with no safety bar).

If anything, this is great for lining up side burns and the like.

It's "The Beard Club" because you will have a beard if this is your razor.

Machine stamped junk. Didn't even come in a box. You'd do better getting something off AliExpress for $1.80. Have a look at reviews sorted by recent [amazon.com].
True, it arrived in a little plastic bag like it was from Ali

I don't normally criticize nostalgia too much, but like cassette tapes, these have no real value against all the modern options. Sure, it's a fun hobby, I guess.
Supposedly going to an old school barber shop for a straight razor shave is a ritual for some but have no personal experience. That said, I would tend to agree with straight razors for shaving but the double-sided safety razor is a classic that IMHO gets the best of both worlds in terms of super close shave, durability and amazing cost per shave. Unlike a cassette tape maybe a safety razor is akin to LPs and CDs loll???
