This Vankyo H300W is a very cheap 1080p portable projector best suited for dark-room, nighttime, or casual use like kids movies, camping, backyard setups, and Halloween window projections. The picture is described as true 1080p with passable color, auto keystone, casting, and decent sound, and it can even handle light gaming. Brightness is the main limit, since 220 ANSI lumens will wash out quickly in ambient light and is not meant for serious home theater use. Fan noise and open-box condition are recurring concerns, including missing remotes or power cords on some units.
Common Questions (5)
At 220 ANSI lumens, it needs a very dark room or nighttime use to look good. It can handle only small amounts of ambient light, and larger screens or daylight will wash it out quickly.
Yes, it is a low-cost projector that fits casual uses like kids' movie nights, camping, backyard viewing, and Halloween window projections. It can also work outdoors or for a local scare if the area is kept fairly dark.
Condition can vary a lot: some units arrive essentially unused with the lens film still on, while others arrive damaged, missing the remote or power cord, or with focus problems. If the accessories are missing or the unit is rough, a return may be necessary.
The fan noise is the main complaint, and it can be loud enough to distract during serious indoor viewing. It is better suited to casual use, outdoor setups, or rooms that already have ambient noise.
It is described as true 1080p and includes speakers, auto keystone, and casting. Color is only passable, but for about $30 it is considered a strong value for a budget projector.

Another pro with this sort of unit is the auto keystone. However, this also comes with limits. These cheaper projectors have limited optical adjustments, basically just focus. No optical zoom, no optical keystone, no optical lens shift. So if you don't get the projector positioned just right, it will use digital keystone/zoom which basically means cropping the sensor to fit your situation. So while the bottom of the picture might be 1920 pixels, the top might only be 1700. Thus you lose resolution and brightness. Not the end of the world but still a negative.
The biggest thing to think about is where are you going to put it? The projector has a fixed 1.33:1 throw ratio. So if you project a 55" screen the projector will be 6' away from the screen. Is that in the center of the room? Is that on a handy shelf? You can use digital zoom but that works by shrinking the image to just the center of the display. You lose brightness if you do that. If you only have say 45" of wall space this should be plenty bright but would be potentially in the middle of your room.
Another thing to think about is having a "screen". When I was first doing movie nights with friends we used a 3x5 sheet of foam core board. They are cheap and work nicely as a flat, white surface.
Finally, better speakers are something to think about. Bluetooth can have lag so a BT speaker with a wired input or just a stereo system can work well. We started off using the 2.1 piece computer speakers but I don't think those are still a thing anymore (perhaps at the thrift store). The built in speakers are often a disappointment when the picture is so large.
