This Vankyo H300W is a very cheap 1080p portable projector best suited for dark-room, nighttime, or casual use like kids movies, camping, backyard setups, and Halloween window projections. The picture is described as true 1080p with passable color, auto keystone, casting, and decent sound, and it can even handle light gaming. Brightness is the main limit, since 220 ANSI lumens will wash out quickly in ambient light and is not meant for serious home theater use. Fan noise and open-box condition are recurring concerns, including missing remotes or power cords on some units.

  • The projector can produce a true 1080p picture with adjustable settings for acceptable color.

  • The projector can handle small amounts of sunlight or indoor lights when windows are blacked out.

  • The projector can work well for dorm or kids movie nights when used at night.

  • The projector supports auto keystone and casting, which helps casual setups like camping or backyard use.

  • The 220 lumens brightness can make the image unpleasant unless the room is very dark.

  • The projector's fan noise can be a major drawback during indoor viewing.

  • Open-box units can arrive missing the power cord or remote, which limits basic control like volume.

  • Open-box condition can be poor, including focus failure and missing accessories, leading to returns.

got mine too. box beat to death wrapped in loose plastic and missing top foam so the projector was bouncing out all the way to my house. top of projector popped off exposing the electronics inside. remote missing. powered on but refused to focus correctly. sent it back.

I pulled the trigger on the V700 Pro for $68 after stacking two promo codes - ~650 (actual) lumens, two ports (to accommodate a dongle), and keystone correction seems worth a shot
How did it work? do you recommend the V700 Pro?Also what is the 2nd discount code?

For someone who bought a cheap chinese white label projector years ago, then more serious Epson and Optoma afterwards, please keep in mind this is a $31 "taste" of what projectors can do. It's not expected to be a main device, but it'll be cool for certain occassions: camping, backyard, kids movies, etc. I dare say its a good value also, since it has speakers, auto keystone, casting, etc.
The Happrun H1, Nexigo PJ40, Epson EP are highly rated cheap projects for under $300.
90% better than random Chinese Projector on Amazon and eb5

I can't speak to this exact model but this general type of projector isn't bad for your needs. Because these don't use vapor laps they are generally quick to turn on/off, won't get super hot and are more durable. The older, brighter lamp projectors can be fragile in those ways. Thinking back to my dorm days I could see the projector getting bumped at some point, someone else cycling the power button in a way that's bad for a vapor lamp (letting the fen run during power off was always a thing). So basically the fact that this projector uses an LED light source is good for your needs.

Another pro with this sort of unit is the auto keystone. However, this also comes with limits. These cheaper projectors have limited optical adjustments, basically just focus. No optical zoom, no optical keystone, no optical lens shift. So if you don't get the projector positioned just right, it will use digital keystone/zoom which basically means cropping the sensor to fit your situation. So while the bottom of the picture might be 1920 pixels, the top might only be 1700. Thus you lose resolution and brightness. Not the end of the world but still a negative.

The biggest thing to think about is where are you going to put it? The projector has a fixed 1.33:1 throw ratio. So if you project a 55" screen the projector will be 6' away from the screen. Is that in the center of the room? Is that on a handy shelf? You can use digital zoom but that works by shrinking the image to just the center of the display. You lose brightness if you do that. If you only have say 45" of wall space this should be plenty bright but would be potentially in the middle of your room.

Another thing to think about is having a "screen". When I was first doing movie nights with friends we used a 3x5 sheet of foam core board. They are cheap and work nicely as a flat, white surface.

Finally, better speakers are something to think about. Bluetooth can have lag so a BT speaker with a wired input or just a stereo system can work well. We started off using the 2.1 piece computer speakers but I don't think those are still a thing anymore (perhaps at the thrift store). The built in speakers are often a disappointment when the picture is so large.

Got mine over the weekend and its very good for 31 dollars. Sound is also pretty decent. For a dorm room i think this is perfect. I even did some gaming on it and the response time is pretty good as well. If its your first projector then you need to understand any light will degrade the quality significantly. I waited till night time and put a Movie on for the kids and it looks great.

Got mine today. The auto focus works, but I can't get past the language selection screen - remote is not responding. I've put in a fresh pair of batteries and point it at the IR sensor. Will try for a bit, but might need to send it back.
