Right because it runs Vega OS but this one runs Android OS. And you can still run third party apps although a couple of them were banned earlier this year or later last year which is why some people are confused.

But yes on the Android version of the fire Stick not the select version you can still side load apps. Kodi, smart tube, whatever's

Community Reviews

This Fire TV Stick 4K is mainly valued as a compact 4K streamer with Wi Fi 6, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Alexa voice control, and it can also handle Xbox cloud gaming with Game Pass Ultimate. Kodi, Stremio, and other sideloaded apps still work for many setups, including Real Debrid and Plex, so it remains useful for third party streaming. The main caution is Amazon's tightening app blacklist and update pressure, which has already blocked some apps and may limit future sideloading. It is also only 8GB with micro USB power, so storage and long term flexibility are modest.

Just buy a Vseebox and forget about fire sticks. Gives you every movie and show on demand, plus pretty much every live US channel including all premium sports channels
I hope you're using that with a VPN. Those things are peer-to-peer nightmares.

If you already own a Fire TV device and it's working for you, rock on. Work that sucker until it dies on you.

However, for people looking to buy a new device, the appeal of buying a Fire TV device diminished greatly once Amazon started locking them down and Walmart launched their line of Android-based streaming devices.

Just a matter of time before the apps you want to side load are blocked. So worth $0.

its actually great if you use Kodi to watch everything
Kodi in 2026? Haven't heard about Kodi in years. So many better options these days over those old Kodi builds. Stremio plus a debrid service or two is perfection.

You can get it all back using Downloader. This is how I got stremio on mine anyway:

There's a workaround that lets you still use "blocked apps" though you will no longer get updates as you have to block amazon server requests

Stremio was not blocked, only some tv and movie apps. If you redownload them, they won't show on the homepage and you get a warning when trying to launch them. You can only delete them or have them take up space on your system
