This refurbished Acer Aspire 14 AI looks strongest as a budget work and school laptop with unusually good CPU, memory, and storage for the price. The Intel Ultra 5 226V, 16GB LPDDR5, and 1TB SSD get praised for fast, efficient performance, smooth multitasking, and even light 1080p gaming or multimedia use. USB C charging, cool and quiet operation, and a light, thin chassis add to the appeal. The main drawback is the display, which is repeatedly described as dim, dull, and only average, with some also noting a spongy keyboard and refurb cosmetic wear. A solid value if the screen is not the priority.

Common Questions (5)

  • For Office, Teams, and browsing, 16GB is enough for normal use, and Windows memory compression can make it feel closer to 20-24GB for non-video tasks. Heavy video-heavy browsing uses more memory, but around 50 Chrome tabs is reported as fine and 10-20 YouTube tabs can still be manageable.

  • At around $350, it's described as a steal for office, school, and general everyday use because the CPU, 16GB LPDDR5, and 1TB SSD are strong for the money. The tradeoff is the display, and refurb condition can vary from like-new to a small scratch or other minor wear.

  • The screen is the weakest part: it's described as dim, 60Hz, and having poor touch accuracy, with about 64% sRGB and roughly 300 nits. It can be acceptable for office work or school, but it's a poor choice if you care about media, outdoor use, or a better personal-use display.

  • It can handle light multimedia work, including Insta360 Editor, and the integrated GPU is described as capable of 1080p low-to-medium gaming. The CPU and storage are the strongest parts, but the screen is the main limitation for media-focused use.

  • Yes, it charges via USB-C, which is a major convenience if you want to avoid carrying a separate wall-wart charger. That makes it easier to pair with a travel charger and cables for work or school.

You may be right. I received it recently. When I turn on the laptop without starting any application on my own, the RAM usage is 51%. Probably because there are lot of unnecessary Acer apps in the startup. I probably need to remove them.
Typically I don't need to manage RAM usage because I am used to 32G RAM. I would max out to 32G DDR4 RAM on the old desktop and laptops.
This laptop uses Windows 11 Chrome ram compression algorithm for 20gb of non video performance. Its heavy Used on 16gb laptop, system report 50% ram use and 5% cpu use. Meaning running up to 50 chrome tabs is fine. Up to 10-20 YouTube tabs is fine with 16gb ram.

Its closer to 24gb virtual using Edge
Playing video consume the most ram, up to 8gb vram

XDA says
"Of course, there's no such thing as magic in technology, so to achieve memory compression, something has to be sacrificed, and that will usually be the CPU. Compressing data before storing it means your CPU will have to work harder, not only to compress the files, but potentially to decompress them as well when accessing them. You're getting improvements in memory performance, but at the expense of CPU performance

Alternatively, if you can't remember whether it's on or off, you can run the command Get-MMAgent and press Enter, then look for the MemoryCompression line. If it says True, the feature is on, otherwise, it's turned off.

On the flip side, a laptop with only 8GB or even 16GB of RAM stands to lose a lot more without memory compression, considering that capacity will probably be filled somewhat easily, and relying on SSD page files as a backup will hurt your performance even more than the CPU cycles used for compressing data

32gb-64gb gaming laptop don't use ram compression as it hurts gaming performance

If you add up the price of just 3 parts ......16G DDR5 RAM + 1T m2 SSD + Intel Ultra 5 cpu , the total cost already exceeds the price of this laptop. (the RAM are not removable)

51% is really high. What consuming all the ram?
