This EliteBook 845 G8 is a business laptop refurb that stands out for solid build quality and upgrade potential, with Ryzen 5 PRO performance, 16GB of RAM, and room for much more storage and memory. The chassis is described as sturdy, and the machine works well as a backup or everyday work laptop once upgraded. The main drawback is battery condition, with reports ranging from about 76 to 85 percent health and some cosmetic wear like peeling display skin. It feels best suited to buyers who are comfortable with refurb tradeoffs and may keep it plugged in.

  • Office workers wanting a sturdy daily laptop, because the build quality is good and the battery can still cover a work session when kept plugged in.

    zhaojunzhe100tk321

  • Tinkerers planning a RAM and storage upgrade, because the machine can be expanded to 64GB memory and 2TB storage.

    zhaojunzhe100

  • People needing a backup laptop, because it works fine otherwise even when the battery health is low.

    tk321

  • Travelers who need long unplugged runtime, because battery health can be under 80% and the laptop may last only about an hour off the charger.

    FatSmurftk321spec44spec44

  • People wanting a fresh-out-of-box machine, because these are five-year-old business laptops and may already have significant wear.

    joedtxSkull_Angel

  • Shoppers expecting a near-new battery, because units can arrive with 40 to 500 cycles and only 80-85% health.

    FatSmurf

  • Buyers who want pristine cosmetic condition, because the display skin can peel and the refurb may show visible cosmetic patchwork.

How is the battery life on these refurbished units? Do they install an oem new battery during the refurbishing process?

Why do they have so many of these units? I bought mine like 2 yrs ago BNIB, upgraded to 64GB RAM and 2TB storage and happy ever since. Build quality is good, battery life is acceptable, and they are almost always in-stock here and there like no one's buying them.

I bought about 4 of these exact laptops from Newegg and none of them came with completely new batteries. They had between 40 to 500 cycles and between 80-85% battery health.

There have been deals for this model pretty regularly. Yes, the EliteBook line is very popular in corporate America, but you don't see too many Ryzens there.

A little searching here on SD should give you a good idea of the market for this model.

I host trivia 3 nights a week and my 3-year old Dell's keyboard went out so going with this as a replacement as the cost to replace the keyboard was more than this laptop cost 🤣

I think they slap a new keyboard/trackpad and a new skin on the back of the display. The skin on the display is peeling in two sections.

Echoing others, I also bought Elitebook from eBay - Newegg in previous deal and battery was less than 80% capacity. Might last an hour unplugged if I'm lucky. Expect to keep it plugged in most of the time.

I forget the actual percentage - mine may have been much lower. I think there's a battery health checker in the BIOS or something. I only ran it when I first got it. I just remember being really shocked by seeing the cycle count. It's a backup/secondary laptop so that's not a big deal for me. Works fine otherwise.
