Replaceable DDR4 3200mhz. 2 slots. The 7420, 7430 have soldered memory but the 5000 series is user replaceable.

For those with trackpad issues on these, run dell command update. There is a firmware update to the track pad that makes it work a lot better.

Bought a higher spec one (1185G7 / 512GB / 32GB / Backlit keyboard) from dell refurbished 2 years ago for little less than $300 and I'm pretty happy with it overall. Touchpad is 100% hot garbage (possibly the worst I've used) and power button leaves a bit to be desired, but I'd buy it again.

Big fan of the Dell laptops and this is a great price. Using a refurb and have been for a couple of years with no issues.

Hi! need a basic family laptop for occasional light use. Was about to grab the HP Elitebook deal that seems to always pop up... linked below. Would this be a better buy? Thoughts between the two? No gaming, light web surfing, word processing.

They will both handle those tasks about the same, I haven't used this model but generally had very good experiences with a variety of Dell laptops lasting quite awhile, and the port selection on this model is very nice at this price point so I'd go with the Dell.

I believe the wife has a similar model but I bought that new with 8GB of RAM which was later upgraded to some larger number. Hers is also the touchscreen version. For schoolwork, she hasn't had any issues. I feel like these 11th gen dell laptops run the fan a lot; but the i7s are worse.
For normal website/word processing, these are fine with a dock etc.

The power button sits slightly lower, is a different texture and requires more pressure to push than the rest of the keyboard. Usually even if I do tap it accidentally, I don't actually press it.

That said, I agree it is a crappy design.

you are right, I just wanted to point it out. Work laptop is Dell and I smashed that power button more than I am ashamed to admit.... may be I just have fat figures and hit too hard, but i hate this Dell.

So I just wanted to raise awareness, that's all Smilie

Quad core CPU but the iGPU has 80 EUs which is near the top end (96 EUs) for Iris Xe integrated graphics. Not bad at all for playing older games.

1325 time spy graphics score which is only 17% lower than Steam Deck. Cyberpunk benchmark has similar performance delta.

This is by no means a gaming PC, or even a low-end gaming notebook, but you could do a lot worse for $224 and hard pressed to do better.
