I am an energy efficiency consultant, and usually I go for the more common solutions such as insulation,, fixing ductwork and installing better appliances. However, I have this one old window that hasn't been changed in my bathroom. It is a single-pane, leaky and I can see the outside through the hole where the crank is. I got fed up this year and tried window film as we just never get a chance to replace it with a dual-pan low U-Value (low-conductivity) window. The film worked way better than expected! The bathroom is several degrees warmer this winter, and the window-sill is even cleaner as a bonus. It'll probably only last a year and I'll have to do it again, but it is worth it. To install, you first carefully unfold the layers, cut to the size of the whole window including lentil, sill, and frame. Then stretch it over the frame and rub to stick it to the surface, Then comes the heat gun where the film shrinks to taut around the frame. It is still clear after 2 months. Kool, cheap fix.
