Is this to see if I fried my electric components or to see if my microwaved lunch is at a good temp.

I use it to see if it's safe to talk to the wife.

Reviews are all over the place on what this is good for. Mostly HVAC, but some chef uses it, and someone else uses it to measure oil for frying.

Thought it might be useful for my Blackstone griddle, to check the surface temp, and meat temp all with the same tool.

Is the probe food safe (e.g. is there lead or some other toxic heavy metal in it)?

I believe you're looking for a decibel meter.

You can use the IR thermometer to surreptitiously check if she is boiling over prior to audible signals. When high decibel auditory signals are present the resonance with your auditory signals may result in a reinforcing cascade and additional heating.

from the description: "Stainless steel probe is FDA GRAS compliant"
