How are these different from the 20 can pack at Costco for $55 ($45 local for me, oddly...)

These are $1.66 a can
Costco is $2.75 a can

Both are "Championship" but Costco are "extra duty" and the Woot are "regular duty"? Buying mostly for my teenage son, and balls tend to go missing pretty quick (& before they are dead) with the group he hits with. They use Penn Championship extra duty for comps, like the Costco balls.

Net/net: are the "extra duty" balls worth $1.10 more per can? Do they last twice as long?

Regular duty is normally used on clay courts. The extra duty is better for hard courts.

OK, Copilot thinks there is a substantial difference, particularly for hard courts which is 100% of high school play in our area.

Foogalfruck is right. The red top cans are made for clay. The felt won't last long on hard courts.

I bought these during the last deal for $12 for a 12 pack box. They work fine for a casual tennis player on hard courts, and I wish I would have bought two boxes now. They're slightly faster than the extra duty after they've been played with for a set or so. Take a look at the talktennis forum to see comments there about the regular duty balls. I think the WTA used to use regular duty on hard courts. My tennis buddies and I open a new can every other time we play, and these work fine for us.

FWIW, I find a few dead balls in the boxes of Penn extra duty I buy from Costco.

The Penn balls from Costco have been tough on my arm lately. The regular duty has the same core with thinner felt. It makes them feel harsher. I'm crossing my fingers that we get the Wilson balls here in Costco.

I always felt wilson balls are a little "lighter" feeling. I feel like Costco has a partnership with head (winter gloves + other apparel) so maybe not much luck there.

I ordered these back in late January; great balls for amateurs like me. They were only 97 cents per can after coupon; looks like the price went up.
