lol, what a blow compared to the open box from Walmart. 128gb is also garbage. Good luck when it comes to updating the OS and you don't have space.

100% bad deal, for multiple reasons. Avoid with prejudice.

So, why?

Firstly, the 128gb model is an EDU sku. (We all know they don't actually "refurbish" these machines, right? They say they do but they really don't. So these aren't fixed in any meaningful way.) And that's after being used for nearly 6 years in a US educational environment. Let's just say they're going to be exceptionally beat up after children used them for more than half a decade.

Secondly, 128gb is a horrible amount of storage. Barely enough to get the OS and a handful of basic applications installed. 8gb of ram isn't exactly worth throwing a parade for either!

Thirdly, the price is higher than other better specc'ed M1 Airs that have been available...just this past week.

Alternatives? There's a VIPOutlet "open box" sale going on with the M1 Air 8gb/256gb for $308 (and at Walmart, it's even been as low as $269). A brand new M4 Air 16gb/256gb is frequently on sale for $750-800 from the msrp of $1000.

I'd argue this should be below $200 at this point in 2026. I'd only suggest this IF the price was cheaper and IF your clearly articulated use case forgives the underperforming specs.
