I mean it's $50 everywhere else of a limited edition 4k of a movie that was never expected to be put on 4k due to who owned the rights. Personally I think it's a fine price if you love the film like I do. The transfer is fantastic. I'd much rather pay $40-$50 for an excellent transfer over $20 for poor quality.

Why is a $41 4K blu-ray considered a Slickdeal? No one should buy disks at this rip-off price.

Great movie! One of many films that helped John Woo breakthrough the US film industry. John also pioneered the, "gun-fu" technique that is used in more modern films like John Wick.

You obviously do not collect physical media from boutique labels so why are you here? $50 isn't unusual, especially for a highly sought after title like this. That said, this is still available from Shout at Gruv so it's really only 20% off MSRP. Still a "slickdeal" by that metric, though

I'm still on the fence if I should get this or the Arrow version instead.

As I posted in the other thread:

This will come to Arrow too: https://www.arrowfilms.com/p/4k/t.../17699254/ Release date: 20 April
Differences from the Shout release (credit MifuneFan @ Blu-Ray .com):
  • Dolby Atmos audio
  • Optional newly translated English subtitles for the Cantonese audio (likely done by Dylan Cheung)
  • High Definition (1080p) Blu-ray presentation of the 130-minute Taiwan Extended Cut with lossless Mandarin mono audio and optional English subtitles (contains standard-definition inserts)
  • Option to view the Extended Cut with additional scenes from the Taiwan VHS release
  • Unrestored print of the Extended Cut (standard-definition with burnt-in subtitles only)
  • 2nd John Woo archival commentary (Shout just has the Criterion archival one)
  • Archival interviews with cinematographer Peter Pau and actors Sally Yeh and Kenneth Tsang
  • Four archival featurettes from 2001 with Woo and producer Tsui Hark
  • Collectors' perfect-bound booklet featuring new writing on the film by critics Priscilla Page and Frank Djeng, archival writing by critic Rafik Djoumi and an excerpt from an interview with John Woo conducted by Stéphane Moïssakis (Shout has their own book with different contributors)
