Sure, but he already owns a Steam Deck. Wouldn't buying an entirely new device be much more of a drastic change than spending 15 minutes installing Windows on the Steam Deck?

The Xbox Ally is under-specced and overpriced. Pass.

Wow - people really don't like this thing. The Ally Z1E or Z2E are older, discontinued units, right? So I'd have to look for a used one?I'm just looking for a simple, quick gaming on the go solution. I find myself often out and about, waiting for the kids to finish their lessons, etc. Also I would occasionally game at home when they've taken over the main TV that I would normally play Xbox on. I looked at the Steam Deck but (aside from availability issues right now) there are only two games I play right now: Helldivers 2 and Fortnite. Steam Deck can't play Fortnite. That's not to say I won't eventually play other games at some point but for now knocking one of the two games that I DO play off the compatibility list would be a nono.

I've been looking for something like this, but the model doesn't have great reviews since it seems to be underpowered. I have a steam deck and I can't play any games I want to play on it. It doesn't have Destiny or Fortnite, which are the two games my friends play. Everyone keeps recommending me other systems that also can't play the only two games I want to play or something that's over $1000. Anybody have an affordable recommendation?

Just dual-boot windows on the steam deck.

Firstly, where are you seeing the L Go S for "about the same price" here of around $500? Second, it seems that device runs Steam OS so it's no go on Fortnite and possibly other games.

With the way component prices are these days an OOTB solution for Windows/Xbox gaming on the go, this is a good deal. Ignore the naysayers that are one concerned about premium performance. This argument is so tired when folks want an easy solution at a deal.Another big selling point is the ergonomics. My hands cramp pretty bad with the SteamDeck. This is much better and pretty close to an Xbox controller.

Some people just want to pickup and play without having to make drastic changes in order to get what they want out of it.
