While that would normally true, there are some challenges in the current, somewhat broken, market.

Prior gen GPUs are selling for abnormally high prices. What can you get for $300 in an RTX 40-series? You can't even get a 4060 Ti for $300 anymore
Even if you could get a 4060 Ti for $300, it isn't actually better than a 5060.
You could go back an additional generation but now you are looking at a 3070 Ti. A 3070 Ti pushes 10% more raw frames but all the downsides aren't worth that.

I bought this card from woot last week at the same price. It was delivered in 3 days. I am super happy with it! I use my pc mostly for web stuff, coding, and some 1080p gaming. The msrp on the 5060 cards have gone up, the only other card I could find at $299 was the pny at Walmart. I wanted to stay with Msi as I have had good luck with their products over the years.

I remember I bought my GTX 1060 in 2018 for 200 dollars.
if RTX 5060 costs 300 dollars in 2026.
that only means RTX 9060 will cost 500 dollars in 2035.
Plan accordingly boys.

There was also a point in time when it was $0 because it hadn't been invented yet.

I probably spent $250 on a Voodoo 2 back in 1998. How does that figure in?

It went up 50% in 8 years, if next 8 years means another 50%, it's $450 in 2036.

Because low end GPUs are always a terrible value. Spend the same money on a previous gen higher tier card and get more frames.

I've been warning people last black friday to get GPUs for less than msrp as prices will likely increase. The ram/vram situation is not likely to get better anytime soon. Understand the current situation before saying it was cheaper before therefore not a good deal.
