The Dyson AM09 is a compact hot and cool heater and fan that stands out most for fast, effective heat and kid friendly design with no exposed heating element. It is also useful for white noise and keeping bedrooms warm, and the 23 inch height makes it easy to place in smaller spaces. The main cautions are reliability and refurb condition, with reports of H2 errors, units failing after about a year, and some refurbished examples arriving scratched or dirty. It is a solid compact heater if you want quick warmth and can live with the maintenance and warranty risk.
people using it to warm bedrooms and add white noise because one commenter has three units for ~7 years and says they keep rooms warm with no issues.
families who want a safer-feeling heater around kids because an earlier model was described as kid-friendly since there's no exposed heating element.
buyers who mainly want fast room heating because one owner says it's not great for a fan but heats up quickly and fills the room fast.
people comfortable doing simple maintenance and using it on a wall outlet because a long-time owner says it's filter-less (just blow dust off the airflow holes) and that it usually prefers direct wall power; they also say it's worth about $170 when it's not throwing H2 errors.
buyers who can't tolerate potential overheating/H2 reliability issues because multiple commenters report H2 errors or breakdowns (including one saying heat fails when H2 occurs and another saying Dyson heaters break down with random H2 codes).
buyers expecting strong fan performance because one commenter says it's "not great for a fan" even though the heat works well.
people who need app-controlled preheating because a commenter wanted an app-enabled model to preheat on the way home, but this one doesn't have that feature.
buyers who are trying to get an air purifier instead of a heater/fan because commenters warn this is a fan/heater and that Dyson HP models are air purifiers that look similar, which can cause confusion.
buyers who want a "certified refurbished" unit to arrive clean and cosmetically solid because one commenter says their refurbished Dyson arrived "beat to hell" with scratches/scuffs and a dirty cable sticker, and they won't trust another refurb after that experience.
buyers who want to avoid paying for ongoing consumables because one commenter says they backed out after reading the filter is expensive.
buyers who are comparing value against Dyson's own pricing because one commenter notes the same model is listed on Dyson's website for $300, making the $170 refurb deal less compelling than it looks.
