These worth it or kind of gimmicky? Thinking about thanks giving and throwing casserole dishes on it but wondering if it would just mostly heat/dry out the bottom without frequent stirring.

I bought a silicone one for thanksgiving that rolls up. It just warmed my plates which I guess was nice but the food was still cold. Perhaps if there was a lid to trap the heat it would be better. No longer use it.
