The Deco XE75 is a Wi Fi 6E tri band mesh system aimed at easy whole home coverage and simple phone based setup. It works well for typical home tasks like Wi Fi extension, DDNS, port forwarding, static IPs, and blocking internet access for devices. The main tradeoff is a stripped down app only interface with no web console and limited advanced networking options. Parental controls are especially weak, with poor paid controls and tight website whitelisting limits. A practical pick if you mainly want straightforward mesh coverage rather than deep customization.

  • The Deco XE75 can work well as a Wi‑Fi extension for typical home coverage needs.

  • The system supports common home networking tasks like DDNS, port forwarding, device blocking, and static IPs.

  • The Deco XE75 can be a practical option for simple device grouping such as a "No Internet" setup.

  • TP-Link's Deco line is designed for phone and cloud-managed setup, which can simplify configuration changes for non-advanced users.

  • Parental controls are a key weakness, including limited whitelisting options and poor performance even in the paid tier.

  • The Deco XE75 lacks advanced networking features for setups needing multiple segregated vLANs with tagging.

  • The configuration experience is app-only with no web interface, and changes can require a router reboot.

  • The bundle may feel overpriced compared with prior mesh deals for similar Wi‑Fi 6E tri-band systems.

i shopped for a router on SD a few months ago and i noticed that theres a lot of misinformation being parroted on these forums.
the tplink deco series is marketed as a "household and lifestyle" appliance (hence the name DECO). this line of products differ from tplinks other routers because its focused on ease of use and simple one click setups for the average technophobe consumer. an active cloud account is required to mitigate setup and changes because deployment is dynamic. they locked out more advanced features and direct access to the router and everything is meant to be managed easily via your phone from anywhere. this is by design for ease of use, not because they want to "steal yo data." if you do a search on SD there are a few other tplink routers, namely the Archer (one mesh) line or the Omada, neither requires mandatory cloud account or setup.
tplink split itself into 2 corporate entities and distanced themselves from one another. tplink systems inc. is a registered US company headquartered in Irvine, california. tplink also aggressively relocated their manufacturing facilities from china to vietnam so they wont be subject to chinese government mandates and data regulations. if you're worried about data privacy, there are many more products that you currently use that are at higher risk from companies that aren't taking such an aggressive stance to remove themselves from china.
Vulnerability Comparison (CISA Data)
Brand Actively Exploited Vulnerabilities (as of late 2025)
Cisco ~80+
D-Link ~24
Netgear ~8
TP-Link ~6
while every router is at risk, tplink is one of the safer ones according to actual statistics. tplink does pose a higher risk due to their massive market share (ie: one vulnerability would expose many more routers because there are just so many tplink routers out there) but this increased risk is systemic, not due to negligence.
i think confirmation bias plays a large part here, or maybe some people want to feel important or relevant by parroting misinformation without understanding it first. this kind of narrative creates an anti-competitive environment that translates to higher prices and less innovation for slickdealers. if you hear tplink being namedropped a lot in politics, well its just grandstanding. they need sacrificial lambs to manufacture outrage like all demagogues do.

These are nice if you just want wifi extension, however been using them for a while now and it lacks a ton of features. So, if you do not mind lack of features but you get wifi extension, then they are pretty nice.
They absolutely lack features. The interface doesn't really let you do much and even the paid parental controls are abysmal. You cannot whitelist domains and you cannot whitelist more than 30 total websites. This presents a problem as the only alternative is to drop filters.

Furthermore, I bought these units for less over a year ago.

Do these still include free parental controls (not requiring a monthly subscription cost)?
In theory yes but the controls are horrible. Even the paid version is terrible. You're better off getting a separate unit to have the parental controls upstream of these.

I'm curious what features it's lacking for you? I'm about as techy as they get and for home use my Deco's work great. If you're looking to setup multiple segregated vLANs with tagging, etc, this is not the device for you. That will go for most consumer devices.
I do DDNS, port forwarding, block internet access to certain devices, static IPs, etc with my Deco's and they have been working fine. If I wanted to do more, I'd be looking at a different class of devices.
Parental controls is where these really lack.

I don't use them except as my "No Internet" device grouping. So this is good information for those that need robust parent controls.

And don't forget they are app only config, no web interface or advanced features, and every change you make (at least in my older model X55's) requires the router to reboot which is very annoying, reminds me of 10+ years ago Linksys stuff.

Does Costco carry the same model?
They used to (around a year ago?), but now carry their WiFi 7 model that replaced the AXE5400.

It shows $400?

The deals come up periodically. Purchased from Amazon, NewEgg, etc. No way to predict other than grab it when you see it.

I just got the XE75 pro that amazon was offering at the same price. They arrived and I set them up yesterday. Yes, it is an app only set up, but after reading the comments here I was pleasantly surprised at how many option settings were available. It works very well out of the box and a big improvement over my single Wifi 5 modem/router combo from the ISP. I get my full plan bandwidth everywhere in the house and even outside (granted only 100 Mbsp). I haven't tried any network transfers yet. To address your comment about rebooting, I've only seen a forced reboot on the initial firmware update so far.
