Very unreliable - used it at home right over existing switches and it neither detected the studs, nor the electric wires.
The Franklin 710 works just fine (doesn't have the live wire detector, but at least finds the studs reliably)

And you can get a Franklin with a wire detector.

Problem with the Franklin Sensors ones are, they don't last. If you are a home owner and use it a couple times a year, they are fine probably. I own a finish carpentry business and literally have a pouch on my belt specifically to carry one all the time, and I only get about a year or so out of each one. It tends to be the switches that go out, so I hack them and put in a generic push button switch and that gets me another year or two out of them. At $40+ apiece, that isn't good enough. Luckily I picked up about 15 of them when Sam's was closing them out for $7, so I am hoping to run those out to retirement.

So...I have bought about 8 of them so far. Just noticed on the last one I got that it says on the package "Lifetime Warranty". So I registered it on the website and will probably find out in a few months. But you really can't beat the Franklin sensors. There's no going back after you use one.

I agree they work about the best for a "budget" one. I believe the warranty says something like, "1 year for commercial use", but I'll look in to it more. Thanks,

Get this one instead of Franklin, same company but cheaper. It has live wire:

My sentiments exactly. Franklin for the win. I moved from OKC to Michigan couple of years ago. I'm an old guy now but had my own trim business back in the day. I still have my tools and my skills and after moving to Michigan, I would locate a stud then move over 16" and there was nothing there. It was crazy. After researching, I found they'd built this house in 1998 using 19.2" spacing on the studs instead of the normal 16". Got a Franklin ProSensor and it's been smooth sailing ever since. Currently refinishing basement into my man cave the stud finder has come in very handy.

All these things are quirky... I have a DEWALT one and a cheapo Temu one, but go back to the magnet stud finder when I really need to be sure. You can always drill a 1/8" pilot before the actual hole or screw if it really really matters...

I don't own this stud finder but I use a Bosch 300' laser distance measure for work and it's the best one on the market (tried Milwaukee, Stanley, Chinese brands, etc). Surprised they dropped the ball on this, Bosch stuff is usually pretty high quality.
