FYI, there's an additional $20 fee if you want to e-file your state return. You can mail it for free, but takes longer.

So I bought this just after Christmas, installed it, and have been pecking away at my returns. I opened the program several times and have been prompted to complete several updates, which went fine. Now that I am ready to file, the program will not update, keeps looping through the process without installing the update, and my returns are not able to be efiled.I tried every possible fix with research and their own trouble shooting chat. Anyone else have trouble with the last update which I believe was 2/13 or 2/14?

Save your Completed Return File to a different folder or a external drive. Uninstall/Reinstall the software and then load your return file. That's my best suggestion for the loop you're stuck in.

Thanks for your reply. tried that. The state program ( I bought the deluxe with state) uninstalls fine, but the federal program won't let me uninstall. It says something about a bad patch. H & R Block told me to reinstall it over the one I have, but it says it cannot install because I currently have a newer version of the program.

Yep, I'd agree. Norton actually detracts from it. Luckily, it's optional. The Norton component is a "Free add-on" and you can just uncheck Norton to skip it. Promo code/pricing is still good without it.

Check with your state to see if they offer a free e-file option. In some states, they offer a relatively simple form that you can fill out and upload your docs to do the state filing (without mailing it or paying the extra $20).

In my city they will fax the state tax form for free at the local commissioner of revenue office.
