"Negative reviews"
"Garbage"
"Not waterproof"

Meanwhile, I'm using the same one I bought back in 2021 without any issues. Survived many barbeques and still kicking. Swapped the battery with a NiMH and it runs just fine on the lower voltage.

TP19. Not the 19"H" for me. Why? 1 x AAA. Long battery life. Motion sensing auto on auto rotate large bright red LED's. No back-lit LCD . Large ergonomic handle. Mine reads in about a second. Waterproof. My order history shows 6 x the TP03 all of which ended up in the trash but they were $4 back in the day.

The one I bought in 2018 and use 2-3 times week has been fine.

TP03 failure points: 1. the plastic swivel which holds the probe breaks even with gentle use, 2. the probe pulls out of the holder and the hair-thin wires break, 3. the battery door won't stay on, 4. failure from liquid ingress, not water resistant. The TP19 has none of these issues. It has the feel of a well made tool instead of a brittle plastic toy. I value my time more than $17 in perceived savings which evaporate quickly with the cost of ruined food.

The TP03B was released in 2025. The 03A and regular 03 existed before that, but the people claiming they've had theirs for 50 years and use it three times a day are mistaken. They are describing a different part made with different materials that happens to have a similar name.

seems you just discovered anecdotal experiences are not necessarily pairwise correlated
