HomeBase 3 is mainly valued for local storage and tying multiple Eufy cameras, doorbells, and sensors into one system, with AI face recognition and faster live view or clip loading in some setups. It can also make event playback feel more reliable than SD cards or older storage setups, especially when paired with an SSD. The biggest drawback is that it can create a hidden 2.4 gigahertz camera network that interferes with WiFi, and some setups still hit slow loading, app bugs, or decrypting delays. A workable hub if the ecosystem fit matters more than perfect network behavior.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can make live feeds and clip loading noticeably faster in some setups, but it can also slow things down and cause repeated loading or playback failures in others. App reinstalling has helped some users, while others still see long delays or clips stuck on Loading.

  • It can broadcast a hidden camera network on 2.4GHz that disrupts nearby Wi‑Fi and may make other devices harder to use. Switching HomeBase working mode from Performance (Beta) to Standard, and sometimes moving the router to channel 1 or 6, can reduce the interference.

  • Yes, it supports local recording to attached storage such as an SSD and can provide more capacity than microSD cards. It is also used for AI-assisted face recognition, though some users still prefer SD cards because they are simpler and faster for direct camera storage.

  • HomeBase 2 does not work with the S220, while HomeBase 3 is used with newer cameras like the S220, E30, S340, and doorbells. One setup reported everything working except the S220 cam, so compatibility can still be model-specific.

  • No, footage previously recorded by a camera may not be reviewable from HomeBase 3 once that camera is offline. That makes local storage less useful for recovering events after a camera disconnects.

Good to know. I was thinking of getting one because I thought it would load faster. I thought about switching to Tapo or reolink but I like getting rich notifications without paying extra. Even though 98% of my rich notifications are of the same wheel of a car parked out front.

I have one paired with a half dozen indoor and outdoor Eufy cameras of different types and if nothing else they are great for comic relief. For example, my wife laughs hysterically when one camera caught me slipping and sliding on ice before falling down porch steps into a snowbank. She keeps playing that constantly....

I don't really see the point of this thing. It slows everything down as well. Good luck live viewing quickly or watching recordings. An SD card in each camera is significantly better, quicker, and even cheaper.
I am battling with this issue right now and can attest to it. I'm holding out for some hope but nothing coming to fruition yet. Even my old setup with an 'outdated modem' and microsd cards was way better than this unreliability. I just want to be able to store more footage on a less volatile media. The Homebase3 has so far trashed what used to work so well (minus the inevitable corrupted microsd cards from constant rewrites).

HB2 supports some new models, like S220 and E30.
The S220 will not work with the HomeBase 2

Oh my god. Same EXACT issue I've had for years. I've tried submitting clips to them to improve their recognition algorithm but I swear they don't do any extra training on their recognition software :/

What do you do in the event a bad guy destroys the camera including the SD card in it?
So you think the camera will have time to wirelessly transfer the video of the bad guy BEFORE he destroys the camera? You're missing the point, it's slower all the way around.

They now have the NVR out with a wifi module you can buy to add the wireless cameras and sensors to. It works okay not too much lag. The delay with decrypting footage from the phone notifications is annoyingly long though.
What NVR are you referring to?

It will make the loading issues substantially worse. Homebase 3 is a piece of **** and they never fix any bugs because there's constantly a new one being worked on. I've already seen some ads for it in the eufy app.
The biggest bug of all is the one that sets the Homebase network speed to 10/100mb instead of the 1000mb connection it should always be running at. You have to reset or pull the power on the Homebase to fix the issue. This is why the performance goes to crap randomly. That said it's the only seamless backup solution with the ability to stich video across multiple camera devices.

anyone switch from ring to an eufy system? debating since ring raised their annual subscription price to $200. Although, it feels like the cost to upgrade to eufy for a 5-6 camera/doorbell system will end up being $1k + install. Seems like ring has us by the balls.

How to Interpret This
✅ Scenario: You Keep Your Current Ring Setup
Your annual cost stays ~$200
You keep video history and features you already use
No large upfront hardware expense
Assuming current Ring system meets your needs, the cost to stay is comparatively low
⚡ Scenario: Replace With Eufy & Drop Subscriptions
Year 1: You pay upfront for new cameras + installation — typically $1,450–$2,850
(hardware + Bay Area install)
Year 2+: You pay $0/year for cloud storage because local storage has no subscription
Break-Even Rough Estimate
If Eufy hardware/install runs ~$1,800 total, and you're paying $200/yr for Ring:
Break-even ≈ 9 years
(because $1,800 ÷ $200 ≈ 9)
If hardware/install is on the lower end (~$1,450), break-even ≈ 7–8 years.
If on the higher end (~$2,850), break-even ≈ 14+ years.

i have blink and its a similar feeling... I am ready to give them away to a family, they did their job for the past 5yrs (20ish cameras around 5000sq ft) but have been looking into these or maybe ubiquiti stuff - huge price difference though...

I wonder how common it is for thieves to smash cameras. I've seen plenty of videos of thieves wearing masks and they don't seem to care about cameras. They are in and out quick.

I got this, along with several Eufy cameras. If I had to do it again, I don't know if I would have gone all out with Eufy. The cameras themselves are good and I've been very pleased with them.
  1. The ads. If I'm checking the app quick to see an alert or something... last thing I want to see is an ad for one of their products right in the app. Sure, you can dismiss it with a little click, but that's not ok.
  2. Pulling up clips can be slow and clunky.
  3. The "feature" where it will combine clips from multiple cameras... the one time I had something happen that was very important, I looked at the clip and it was very badly spliced together. 4 different cameras captured it. It combined them into 1 clip that made a 10 minute event into 2 minutes, and as far as I can tell it did not keep the originals. I turned that feature off after that.
  4. It does create a hidden wifi SSID for the cameras on 2.4ghz. I did not notice any issues with other wireless devices.
  5. I hate that there's no easy way to turn off notifications temporarily. I can't add some (or all) the cameras to a group, and then pause notifications for 1 hour while I go outside. Instead, I have to pause each camera individually. That's very annoying.
  6. As already mentioned, the network speed of the homebase is 10/100 and not 1000. For the price, I would have expected better. This isn't a setting, it's the hardware inside.
