HomeBase 3 is mainly valued for local storage and tying multiple Eufy cameras, doorbells, and sensors into one system, with AI face recognition and faster live view or clip loading in some setups. It can also make event playback feel more reliable than SD cards or older storage setups, especially when paired with an SSD. The biggest drawback is that it can create a hidden 2.4 gigahertz camera network that interferes with WiFi, and some setups still hit slow loading, app bugs, or decrypting delays. A workable hub if the ecosystem fit matters more than perfect network behavior.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can make live feeds and clip loading noticeably faster in some setups, but it can also slow things down and cause repeated loading or playback failures in others. App reinstalling has helped some users, while others still see long delays or clips stuck on Loading.

  • It can broadcast a hidden camera network on 2.4GHz that disrupts nearby Wi‑Fi and may make other devices harder to use. Switching HomeBase working mode from Performance (Beta) to Standard, and sometimes moving the router to channel 1 or 6, can reduce the interference.

  • Yes, it supports local recording to attached storage such as an SSD and can provide more capacity than microSD cards. It is also used for AI-assisted face recognition, though some users still prefer SD cards because they are simpler and faster for direct camera storage.

  • HomeBase 2 does not work with the S220, while HomeBase 3 is used with newer cameras like the S220, E30, S340, and doorbells. One setup reported everything working except the S220 cam, so compatibility can still be model-specific.

  • No, footage previously recorded by a camera may not be reviewable from HomeBase 3 once that camera is offline. That makes local storage less useful for recovering events after a camera disconnects.

I feel like since adding an HB3 to my system of 4 cameras I've seen a night and day difference in loading times of live feeds and clip loading. Happy I added it but I'm not super anal about how everything functions. I really only use the cams for occasional event viewing and doorbell alerts

For folks with slow load times on recalling footage, it's your upload speed for your internet provider that is the limiting factor. So anyone on normal "coax" internet is going to have a hard time getting to this footage quickly if you are asking this much of your upload speeds

Try uninstalling / reinstalling the eufy app. That made a noticeable difference for me
I will agree with this. My system mainly worked OK, sometimes never loading, but mostly OK. Got HB3 and seemed things got worse, now I might have to try to load a video 4 times before it would actually play.

However I recently switched phones, and I have hardly any issues again like it did when my system was newer'ish. Makes no sense. So somehow they have a lot of old junk cached or legacy code that gets worse as time goes by as they do app updates. So yea I would say try to fully uninstall the app and reload it, it may get way better.

HB3 has some serious issues. If it isn't necessary, don't get one. They like to broadcast a hidden network for cameras and it will destroy your 2.4ghz spectrum. Even if you change the channel on your router. There are ways to fix it, but it involves a second router or doing surgery on the thing.
Useful insight! Thank you!

What about if you view this at home in your intranet? Is it fast?

My other question is it better not have any homebase and view the footage from the camera itself.

I wonder how common it is for thieves to smash cameras. I've seen plenty of videos of thieves wearing masks and they don't seem to care about cameras. They are in and out quick.
Of course you're only seeing the videos where the thieves didn't smash the cameras. Video of thieves smashing the camera and destroying footage wouldn't exist by definition. Survivorship bias.

I don't really see the point of this thing. It slows everything down as well. Good luck live viewing quickly or watching recordings. An SD card in each camera is significantly better, quicker, and even cheaper.
Agree with this and the post above. I had 2 of these in my home and sold them off because it ruined all the wifi channels. I thought it was my mesh network and after a million configurations changes and resets, turns out as soon as I took these homebases out, wifi worked perfectly again.

damn, good info about the wifi issues, got this at $75 a while back. hard to say how much it is messing with my wifi, but based on the reports i'm sure it is. most of my stuff is hardwired or on wifi 5.0 or above. i like the s3 cameras, and have them running across a few different homes along with some older bullet cameras. definitely not up to par with more professional surveillance systems, but find it better than arlo.

have anyone tried to connect the homebase with ethernet? instead of wifi. Maybe that makes a difference. That's how I have it connected.

I believe the homebase ONLY connects to your network via ethernet. It has it's own internal hidden SSID that it uses to connect to the cameras.

Nice find. Have this HB3 in my setting for 1 year now. Making local storage with AI helping the face recognition but still need to improve

I can confirm this. I purchased one with connection issue, returned and purchased another one with the same issue. Eufy sent me a replacement unit and nothing improved. The workaround with a dedicated router doesn't work for me. Finally Eufy sent me $30 for compensation. This trash kills your WiFi network, period! Avoid at any price.

I've been in the eufy ecosystem for over a year now and couldn't be happier. On the Homebase 3, I'm running three S340 cams, a S220 cam, a doorbell, and several motion and contact sensors. Subscribed to $10/month monitoring. Everything works great together, except the S220 cam, which I might change.

I did both and turned out there was no difference in terms of serious WiFi interference.

It has both options in the setup. I had it connected on wifi, but since its near a router, I switched it to ethernet.
