I'm still mad at King Arthur over their 2019 recall, when the all-purpose flour they sold turned out to be ADM flour laced with e.coli. Most of us had assumed they milled their own stuff instead of spec'ing flour from big ag.

That aside, I make biscuits once or twice a month, and scones about as often. My goto is Saco Powdered Buttermilk, but Bob's Red Mill and other brands are available. Keeps fine for months in the frig and it winds up being lots cheaper than this mix.

(and if you think my 6 year old KA grudge is long in the tooth, don't ask about my Volvo grudge that dates back to 1979).

Bob's Red Mill sources its ingredients from suppliers inside and outside the USA so they don't have 100% vertical integration either. Few do. That said, this isn't a bad product, and KA isn't a bad company. There are other choices, but KA has been pretty reliable with this product. It helps keep people from grabbing pre-made, mass-produced big brand biscuits that have too many chemicals and additives yet still being able to get biscuits in the oven in minutes. I get the grudge thing - Hershey's, Mars, Nestle, and bunch of others on my ****list for all the shady things they've done to what used to be good, clean, tasty, healthy products.

At least KA, like Bob's, is employee owned. I like Hershey because of the control by the trust that exists to benefit "orphans" and I've watched their stock for decades. The Reese grandchild has been complaining about the Cups since the Yahoo Groups days, but compared to Nestle, HSY is a bunch of saints. See also the Hormel Foundation.

btw, I usually make two batches of biscuits/scones at a time and freeze one batch, then adding the butter and liquid to the mix. Talking about the commercial mix, you've made me hungry for some Red Lobster biscuits, which I haven't had since pre-Covid.

I trust king arthur recipes but never really bought their products due to price. the ingredients for this are powdered buttermilk and self-rising flour, so you can reasonably just make this yourself for much less. their recipes I will say are pretty great, I use them regularly.
