There is NO difference between the 8.7" A11 and the A9 besides the upgrade to a 90Hz display from 60Hz. Same processor (G99), same RAM, same storage. Save your money and get the A9 8.7" for cheaper on eBay. I just picked up an open box for $85.
The 11" base A11 on the other hand is a big upgrade over the base A9 (more RAM and storage).

Question is - is is worth it to return for an S10 lite tablet for $220 after tax?
Realistically I know for $30 more I get display out which is really nice for dex, but the idea of lugging an external display isn't too fun
Technically, a11+ is newer (doesn't really matter, they are 6 months apart and support 7 years of update)
I just don't wanna deal with the return process, is it worth the time? lol (using tablet for chrome based work, cold calling - will try and mitigate apps and preserve storage, main streaming apps are YouTube + and movieboxbpro)
Seriously though, buying an older OLED flagship is usually the way to go for tablets. They don't need critical updates when it's just for surfing, YouTube, games, and Netflix.
Getting a used Tab S6 (non lite) or S7+ from eBay would be a much better tablet. More ram, faster chip, and the much better OLED screen.
Get one on Metro or Purchase a new Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G and pay the applicable sales tax on the pre-credit price at time of purchase. Instant rebate of $279.99 will be applied to the full retail price of $279.99.
Activate a new tablet line on a qualifying $30 or higher rate plan to your existing Metro smartphone plan.

If it wasn't for the small size, there are tons of cheap tablets available that are significantly better than the A9/A11 8.7".
I bought an a11+ tablet for for $197 after tax
