The Steam Deck OLED stands out as a strong handheld for on the go gaming, with the trackpads, SteamOS, and overall input feel making it a favorite over many Windows based rivals. The OLED upgrade is described as a worthwhile step up from the LCD model, and the device can even stream heavier games from a PC when needed. Availability is the biggest issue, with refurb stock and even standard units often out of stock, and the $549 price feels less compelling for older hardware. Storage and screen tradeoffs also come up, especially for the 512GB model and the etched panel on the 1TB version.

  • The Steam Deck OLED can stream from a more powerful PC when you need extra performance.

  • The SteamOS and trackpad input can make the Steam Deck feel superior for gaming workflows.

  • The OLED model can be a strong upgrade path from an LCD 512GB Deck for better overall experience.

  • The OLED 512GB can be a practical choice for gaming on the go when OLED units are available.

  • The 512GB storage may be insufficient for larger games like GTAVI.

  • The $549 price can feel less compelling because it targets older 3-4 year hardware.

  • Checkout can fail when the "Continue to payment" step does not work, which can complicate purchasing.

  • The OLED resolution can look blurry with jaggies for people with good vision.

When "Continue to payment"... doesn't.

Are you sure SteamOS is up to snuff? Because their e-commerce systems, not so much...

And there's no support option for hardware purchases. I thought Valve was supposed to be competent.

price on these is just going to go up due to strain on PC components all going to AI bs.The fate of the steam machines is also in trouble, either the price will go up alot or they'll be sold at a loss which Valve doesn't do historically.

Only worth it if you get a refurbished unit.

Price on these will just keep going up as all the storage and other PC components gets bought up by AI outfits. Dark times ahead for pc gaming.

Those who really want it grab one but the price point for 3-4 year old hardware isn't a great deal, holding out for a refurb would be your best bet
I just bought one a few months back was on the cusp of not knowing if I would have liked it or not. I already have a maxed out pc 4090 w/ big processor. It's been phenomenal. Obviously it's my pc but it truly has let me enjoy gaming in a new way. If I want power I can just stream to it. So YMMV.

1 or 2? Literally every one is more powerful, though virtually everybody agrees that the SD is generally the best experience.
SD made me realize power isn't everything in a handheld. I tried them all. Can't get rid of my steam deck.

Yup. It's 10x weaker, but Valve made a damn good handheld device.

These are sold out and not coming back thanks to AI gouging all the hardware. We are so cooked.

New resident evil doesn't crack double digit fps on the Ally Z1 extreme... Gets 40 fps on the deck.

Welp, just cancelled the 512 and ordered the 1TB, thanks!
I've heard a lot of gripes about the etched screen on the TB model vs the standard screen on the 512. If it wasn't for the cost of SSDs right now I'd say get the 512 and install a 2TB drive.

"Just get a Steam Deck" is real. It's been one of my favorite purchases in recent memory and I was on the fence for years before finally pulling the trigger when I found a super good deal on a 512gb OLED brand new on FB marketplace. I was waiting for several months for the refurb 512gb OLED to come back in stock, but got it cheaper brand new. Speaking of, check FB marketplace to see if there's any good local offers, you might get lucky.
how did they sell something brand new inbox lower than other markets after tax and fee?

Have you used any new models?

Asus and Lenovo upped their game hard. ASUS is way more comfortable to hold.
they are both $1000+
