i wouldn't buy something like this from anyone except canon or amazon

Yes, it was discontinued a few weeks ago. It's successor the R5 II has been out for about a year and a half now. Authorized resellers are selling remaining stock for $2800 but Canon is selling refurbs for $2400. Canon refurbs have the same 1 year warrant as new. I've bought a lot of Canon refurb lenses and they always come "like new," just in a white box.

Canon official refurbs (which is basically brand new) had been as low as 2200 +10%cb like two years ago.

There are plenty of retailers you can buy from with confidence. In fact, I'd probably buy something like this from Bhphoto or Bestbuy before Amazon due to better supply chain control.

Agreed. There are horror stories of people getting anything but their camera from Amazon. Adding to that their lately horrible customer service, there' no way I'd buy an expensive item like this from them.
