If it's a trimmer and edger combo than there is a button that allows the trimmer to rotate the head to become an edger and then back again. So that you will hold the shaft in a normal position as the shaft doesn't move.

If it is only a trimmer than you will have to rotate the whole shaft and hold it in an awkward position if you are going to try to use a trimmer only as an edger.

This ok if you really need a cheep trimmer. But I highly recommend the trimmer with two (2) strings instead of this one with only one string.

I have both and gave this one away and kept the two string trimmer. It is 3 x's faster and worth it.

If you already have a battery and charger this is a good deal - not heavy duty but good enough for a smaller lawn.
