Just for clarification, this is the short lived six episode TV show, not all of the movies

If you liked Airplane! Or any of the Naked Gun movies, then yes.

Community Reviews

Police Squad! is the short lived six episode TV series that launched the Naked Gun style of comedy, and it is praised as one of the funniest shows ever. The set is especially appealing for fans of Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies, with memorable deadpan gags, funny end credits, and restored original audio details like the Happy Birthday song. It also includes the unaired episode tied to John Belushi's death. The main drawback is that this release is only the series, not the movie collection, and the show is not currently streaming anywhere, making the disc more useful for access. A compact classic for slapstick fans.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. The series is described as a must-have for fans of Airplane! and The Naked Gun, with the same rapid-fire absurd comedy and running gags.

    CrackRabbitsleasyridrBrandoMan13nathanddrews

  • It is the short-lived six-episode TV series, not the full movie collection. The set is for the original Police Squad! show, which came before The Naked Gun movies.

    samfromnyGreyMagic695Ozzie4

  • Yes, it includes the episode that never aired on TV after John Belushi's death. That makes the set more complete than the original broadcast run.

    TealWater414

  • No, it is reportedly not streaming anywhere right now. The Blu-ray is useful if you want easy access to the series without relying on a streaming service.

    rockmo

  • Yes, this release restores the original Happy Birthday song that was later redubbed on reairings and VHS for rights reasons. The restored version is included even though some found the later redub funnier in context.

I didn't even know they made a series. Was it any good?
Others apparently enjoyed them more than me. I borrowed the set from the library and quickly returned it.

There's a line from this show. "We found the ransom note, it was attached to this window and thrown into the rock garden" hahahaha
"WHO ARE YOU AND HOW DID YOU GET IN HERE?"

I paid 20 for this a while back. Definitely worth it. The new movie sucked. They could have brought Jeff Zucker to direct it but chose people from the Family guy writing team.
It had it's moments, but it fell off the rails toward the end. The whole movie worked becuase Lesile Neilson played a 1960s TV cop in the modern world. Liam Neison didn't quite have that quality to sell the part.

I bought the DVD way back in the day and it's notable for restoring the Happy Birthday song that was hastily redubbed for later reairings and VHS releases due to the (bogus) rights issues. Ironically enough, the redubbed song was actually pretty funny if you knew the context and restoring the original song felt like a downgrade.

Actually, I laughed out loud quite a lot in the theater at the remake. I liked it as much, especially the scene when they're looking at pictures of their dads!

That's a great price. When I bought it, I paid $17.49. It even includes the episode that never aired on tv because of John Belushi's death.
