Police Squad! is the short lived six episode TV series that launched the Naked Gun style of comedy, and it is praised as one of the funniest shows ever. The set is especially appealing for fans of Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies, with memorable deadpan gags, funny end credits, and restored original audio details like the Happy Birthday song. It also includes the unaired episode tied to John Belushi's death. The main drawback is that this release is only the series, not the movie collection, and the show is not currently streaming anywhere, making the disc more useful for access. A compact classic for slapstick fans.
The Blu-ray set delivers a six-episode TV series that fans of the Naked Gun and Airplane! style of comedy may enjoy.
The series includes end credits that are described as funny and supports repeat laughs across episodes.
The set can be useful for access since the TV series is reportedly not streaming anywhere.
The release is described as including a restored Happy Birthday song version, which can be a notable viewing difference versus earlier reairings.
The Blu-ray is for the short-lived six-episode TV show rather than a complete collection of all movies.
The restored original Happy Birthday song can feel like a downgrade compared with the redubbed version in context.
The related movie continuation is criticized for falling off toward the end and for not matching the quality of Leslie Nielsen's role.
The set's value may depend on what you want, since a separate bundle with the four movies plus the series is mentioned at a higher price.
