I checked 2 stores near me that showed 2 and 6 in-stock. Was unable to locate the items even with assistance of employees and checking odd places. Employees zeroed out the stock while i was there.

This is a drill, and yes impact drivers are different things. A drill is, well, a drill, and an impact driver is only meant to drive fasteners into place (screws, etc). The drill can double as a driver, but it's not nearly as good at doing that job as the driver, but a driver makes an even worse drill. Drivers are typically single speed (or burst in some cases) and uses hex bits vs a chuck. If you find yourself stripping screws using a drill/driver, an impact driver will usually save you a few of those.

To confuse things more, there's impact wrenches, which operate on a similar mechanical basis but are used for high torque bolts instead of fasteners. Typically, cost of a drill < driver < wrench.
