I am have been using H&R Block for years too but last year there was a CA rule change on a certain limit and it won't work for e file. I had to submit paper and I still haven't received my federal refund! It's been a year

That does not add up. How would a CA tax rule change hold up your Federal Return?

The H&R Block free five Federal eFile are NOT tied ot any income levels and you CAN do a federal eFile and a state paper file if you so desire.

HR Block sucks, thanks to Gemini I saved some money in finding it's bugs..the problem is there is no cheaper alternative. Also good to know the low bar, I bought this paying 5 dollars more..

Is HR aware and they're likely to be fixed in sw updates or did you find workarounds? If you have time please let us know 🙇

Found it -- it was California e-file issue with SDI over $9999 -- there was a Reddit post so I know I wasn't the only one

Well, color me pink
i bought at $23 because prices didnt drop below $20 last year.

Lets see if $17.99 is possible.
At the minimum, holding till $19.99 next year.

Is saving a couple of $ worth the time/effort?
No, but it's a fun thing to do along with the SD crowd

99.9% of people are wasting their money buying these, when some excellent free alternatives like FreeTaxUSA exist. I've been using it for years, basically 1-for-1 for the paid software. Free federal filing too, then the standard charge for state.

The best deal is not falling for H&R and TT's advertisement.

This deal is an extra $4 for state and you get a downloaded software instead of having to enter on a website. Granted hr block and turbotax do store your returns if you efile even on the downloaded software

Is State e-submission included in FreeTaxUSA?
You have to pay $25 for H&R/TurboTax for that!

I will say this: For the first time in 3 years of using H&R Block software, my state return got rejected even though H&R Block software showed 0 warnings and review objects. Absolutely 0 notifications on my state return, and it still got rejected.

I have used H&R Block for years. But this year I can't import 1099-B from Merrill. I waited until the end of Feb and called HR today. The rep confirmed that, and offered refund. JFYI.
Yea, not having Merrill support sucks. It is not like Merrill is a small little known company. TurboTax had the same problem, but Intuit added support in the last update. I was expecting H&R to do the same, but 2 updates have passed since the time that Intuit fixed this. An internet rumor is that Bank of America had a large layoff and that support in the tax products actually comes from the brokerage.
Did you take the refund? Had you bought directly from H&R Block?
