The Mangmi Air X stands out as a thin Android handheld that punches above its price for PSP, widescreen retro gaming, and lighter Android or PC titles. The 4 gigabytes of memory, larger higher resolution 16 by 9 screen, and active cooling make it feel more capable and more comfortable than many budget rivals, and the form factor gets praised as especially easy to pick up and play. Battery life for higher end games lands around 2 to 3 hours, and stronger alternatives around the same price can offer more raw performance. It is a versatile choice if widescreen play matters more than maximum horsepower.
Common Questions (5)
The Air X offers a larger 16:9 screen and a thinner, more pocketable design, which makes it appealing for PSP, widescreen hacks, and Android use. The RG406H/V can be the better value for raw performance because they often sell around $100 with much stronger CPU/GPU and 8GB RAM.
It should handle PSP very well and can explore the upper limits of PS2 and GameCube emulation. It also has enough headroom for many modern Android games, though PS2/GC performance is still the main area where more powerful handhelds pull ahead.
Yes, it has active cooling. That helps support its higher-performance Android handheld use case, especially when pushing PSP, PS2, GameCube, or Android games.
Yes, it works well with a controller setup and a gaming frontend like Daijisho to replace the factory home screen. That kind of compact, pick-up-and-play setup is part of what makes it feel more fun and convenient than using a phone plus controller.
For higher-end gameplay like PSP and above, battery life is roughly 2-3 hours at a stretch. Lower-end systems should last longer, and everyday drain feels similar to a Powkiddy X55.

While I agree that it's totally fair to argue that something like the Anbernic RG406H provides that extra power I'm missing for a relatively small price increase... I already have more than enough devices that can play 4:3 games. At this level of performance & price, I'm just not willing to sacrifice the versatility of a widescreen display.
As soon as we get something around the $100 price point that can do GC/PS2 emulation well but ALSO has a 16:9 display for the myriad things that a handheld this powerful can do (widescreen hacks, PSP, DS/3DS, native Android games, and PC games) I'll be all over it. That's probably not too far off the horizon, but until then, I think the Mangmi Air X is still the best price/performance value.

That said, I did this exactly (with that $24 Moto G from Wal-Mart this past holiday season) and even though performance is slightly better than something like the Mangmi Air X... it's just no fun to use and I never find myself reaching for it. It's more cumbersome and unwieldy, whereas the design of the Mangmi is just a delight. It feels like a fun tech toy, in the best possibly way, that makes you want to hold and play with it. It's a frictionless, pick-up-and-play experience, and I find I'm doing all of my retro gaming on it lately, even in the presence of "superior" options.
I know that's kind of an intangible benefit that you can't really put a monetary value on, but... there's a reason people prefer these little handhelds.

The screen size on the Mangmi is much bigger. I love switch emulation, and smaller screen sizes don't do it justice.
