Me personally i would just get a lightly used m4 for only a little bit more. Especially with m5 out u can find a lot of good deals on used m4. Better design more ram faster ect

Would someone planning to output to 2 monitors be the type of person to look at a Neo?
Why not. The headline monitor limitation goes away if the person has displaylink docks lying around.

Is there a loophole to becoming a member of edu? Also why is touch iD good
No loopholes required... Apple doesn't verify student status to get edu discounts.

MSRP is $599. This is $499 for students/teachers.
edit: getting downvoted Big Grin
Right and the $100 is relevant because

The Neo's $100 off here is 16.67% off
Vs the same $100 off the M5 Macbook air which is 9% off

Apple's flat pricing made for a better deal here.
That said - im on the side of this not really being worth it vs a used/open box/refurbished M1 Air for cheaper or a refurbished M4 Air for a little more

Indeed. Reminds me of how Windows used to ask for a product key, but also provide a Skip button so you could continue without a product key.

It will get more people to use Macs. I remember ordering M1 Airs for the fam set me back a bit in 2020 when it became clear the tech was better. I would get a half dozen of these if doing that today.

I think this Neo will be a hit. While many are criticizing the 8GB of memory, the specs of this laptop are still satisfactory for the intended market. And one could make the argument, for the majority of regular laptop users who are just "light" computer users.

$499 entry point to a new Macbook laptop makes it more affordable. That is what the intent was for this machine, affordability. While still being in the Apple ecosystem and having a machine running MacOS.

If we were in the market for a new Macbook, we would give this one serious consideration. We have family members who literally just browse the web, watch videos, work on office files, etc. This is plenty sufficient and saves a few hundred dollars over buying the Macbook Air.

I wish they offered this with a large screen option like 15" or 16". Old people need bigger screens, and they also like low cost products. Seems like a missed market.

Neo is significantly less capable than air and pro.

It is, after all, a basic, entry-level device.

Ebay, amazon warehouse, even local fb market place. I personally bought a used 15" m4 air 24gb 512gb for 800. Had like two very small nicks but other than that no complaints
The "good price" is based on location. Where I live, people want top dollars for their macbook airs.
