This 13 inch flat bottom wok is aimed at quick stir frying, and the bundle adds a glass lid, spatula, and cleaning whisk. The strongest praise centers on the nitrided style finish, which is described as more nonstick out of the box than a well seasoned pan and able to handle metal utensils. The main concern is that the surface may actually be a chemical nonstick coating, with reports of peeling and confusion over whether it is truly pre seasoned carbon steel. Pricing also looks inconsistent, since the advertised $20 can jump to $39 at checkout. A low cost wok option, but the finish deserves a close look.

This non-stick "seasoning" vs non-stick "coating" discussion seems to come up every time one of these cheaper carbon steel pan in on SD. With a fairly even split of people claiming that it is some type of chemical, added surface and others claim those people don't understand what preseasoning of carbon steel means. 😀🤔
and the concerns had been answered over and over again. I think we need a central wiki for the well written answers to these questions

I am a fan of woks but this is a losing proposition in either case - if it's untreated carbon steel, those are basically a lifestyle to keep treated and prevent them from rusting. If it's treated with non-stick, that's a toxic mess. For me, stainless steel is the way to go.

Do you guys washed seasoned woks? Like how do you clean a seasoned wok after using it?
If seasoned adequately, and if using adequate oil when stir frying, you may be able to wipe the residue off with a paper towel or rag without soapy detergent use, which would remove the oil seasoned effect. But sometimes I do have to use soapy detergent and stiff brush to clean it, so I simply heat up the wok and re-season it before putting it away. It is not difficult. Love my carbon steel wok!

Its all about $$$$$$$$$ today.
SD thinks more posts(crap) will equal more $$.
The opposite is true.

Crap staff post just serves to keep users away.
then need more staff to post more crap in order to make up for the lost revenue/traffic.
100% this!!! SD used to be legit, now it's just staff posting random Amazon shit a thousand times a day.

Looks like a cheaper version of the nitrided woks popping up on Amazon. The rivets and reviews on this don't look that great.

Can't vouch for this one but I have this and it's been excellent, though it costs more, especially if you want a glass lid: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B7ML35R2

The nitriding process does seem to work quite well, I've been using carbon steel woks and cast iron pans for a long time now and out of the box this is more non-stick than even my well-seasoned pans. I used my usual metal wok utensil to cook fried rice in it and was pretty rough (since it involves bashing the rice) and the seasoning/metal held up fine. Pleasantly surprised with this; I got it because the rivets on my Joyce Chen wok were so bad.

I don't buy these cheap products from China.
Uh... a wok is one item I would buy from China. Check out TEMU for very nice hammered carbon steel 12.6inch diameter woks without coatings, with many stir-fry utensils accessories, apron, very nice stiff bristle cleaning brush, cover, and more for about $20

Was going to buy but read some of those not-so-good reviews … where you learn a lot about the product. I was attracted to the claim that the pan was pre-treated carbon steel. The reviews note that this is steel coated with a non-stick material … Teflon.

I'll pass …

I can highly recommend T-Fal Essentials 14-in. Jumbo Wok - I bought it at Kohl's and with the right discounts it will be between 30 and 40 dollars. If you don't abuse it - it will be the last Wok you will ever buy.

All carbon steel pans are supposed to be pre-seasoned and have oil applied after each cleaning to keep the seasoning going and to prevent rust. The comments here, along with the 1 star reviews make it unclear whether this is actual pre-seasoned with oil, or if it is a a fake non stick coating. It's a pretty huge deal to know a real carbon steel pan from a teflon non-stick pan because the use and care for each type is completely different.
I have a carbon steel pan and understand how to clean and season it and to never leave it in water, because if you do then it will rust. A real carbon steel wok will be an all metal pan that needs to be pre seasoned and have oil applied with every use. VERY different from teflon non-stick pans.

I found a similar price at my local Walmart for the Babish 13 carbon steel wok a week ago.. it's now 30+ but I think it's smooth as possible and didn't appear to be coated with Teflon but is as black any other coated one.

It would make zero sense for this to have a chemical coating and also support 800 degree temps. Otherwise the coating would literally be used for every single frying pan. ever sold, lol. This absolutely not PTFE.
