As someone who has actually attempted to break a car window before, these are not good at all. You all may want to watch some videos of police officers trying to break through windows on YouTube. You cannot get enough force with these to easily break a window out, especially if you're inside trying to swing it. You need to get one of the glass breakers that have a spring-loaded punch to reliably break open a window. after being a first responder for 20 years, this is what you want to have in your vehicle. I have used this and it works 100% of the time.

Could be a projectile for those with A-pillar airbags. I would place mine on my door side-pocket.

Got a pair. I was debating if I should get theoretically safety-critical items off deals (and from Amazon Basics), but it also occurred to me i likey wouldn't have one when I needed it if I didn't see them on sale now and buy them. I do hope I never need to test them!

Attach it to your A-pillar so you know where it is if needed. Stick it in the glovebox and you may not be able to reach it

Get a hammer instead (currently $4 on sale at HF). It's much more versatile and may be useful in lots of other situations.

Speaking of the belt cutter - a pocket knife would serve much better. It has to be close to you to reach, if you get stuck and have to cut the belt to free yourself up.
A hammer is less practical to store in an accessible location. A pocket knife sounds good, but in reality it would have to be kept very sharp at all times and likely would be harder to use to cut a belt than a dedicated tool.

You could've just said each of my cars instead of trying to flex about swinging both ways 😅

Plebe. A real man keeps a sledge hammer and a broadsword in his center console.

i recently observed a car on fire by the road side. no passengers in car but firemen still needed to get into the vehicle and the amount of effort they had to expend to break windows/windsheid was insane... spiderwebbed the glass but i don't recall anything breaking/shattering. they did manage to open a door finally. i find it hard to imagine tools like this actually work.

Was the initial comment serious? In the history of the world, has anyone ever saved themselves from a burning or submerged car by breaking a window with one of these? Ignore that this is almost assuredly not going to be able to break a window, as another commenter pointed out. A perfect window breaking tool would have virtually no more utility. This is a tool that has a minuscule chance of being needed, and then is unlikely to be accessible in a timely fashion when needed. I wouldn't accept one of these if it was given to me for free. It's more likely to cause injury or car damage than it is to prevent them.

Having you ever seen a police offer try to break a side window with a baton? Of course you haven't and thus why you'd even suggest that. Glass breakers are pretty much a requirement, especially if you don't like massive bleeding.

Also, what other "versatile" uses do you need a hammer in a car? How is a $4 hammer cheaper than a $3.15 seat belt cutter? Not to mention a knife on top of that? Plus a knife needs to be worm to be effective. I personally always carry a knife but my wife and kids don't nor do I think I can force them to do so 100% of the time....so little good that will do. How are you going to mount that $4 hammer so isn't a projectile and / or in a accessible place after a roll over or when your car is sinking?

P.S. using your logic why not just use a free rock or surplus brick? LOL.....
