Logitech's Ergo M575S is a comfortable thumb trackball that shines for long sessions, couch use, and setups where you do not want to move a mouse around. The ball feel gets praise for precise control, the battery life is described as very good, and the switches are easy to replace when they wear out. The main caveat is Logitech's familiar left click and double click failure over time, and the flat shape may need a riser for better angle. It is a solid, low maintenance trackball if you want ergonomic control without the full MX Ergo feature set.

  • The left click can start failing or double-clicking after roughly one to two years of use.

  • The mouse can feel too flat for some setups, and a riser or 3D-printed stand may be needed.

  • Some users report that the trackball transition from a regular mouse can feel overly spinny and inaccurate at first.

  • The M575S can lack features compared with MX Ergo models, including on-the-fly DPI adjustment and a vertical stand.

I use this and love it. Have the black/blue combo. No thumb issues yet after using it for a couple years but the left click is starting to go. Never had a white colored mouse before but I could imagine it getting gross looking pretty quickly if you have sweaty hands.
Logitech is infamous for problematic switches with their mice and trackballs. I have 2 Logitech gaming mice and 2 trackballs with left switches went bad. Had to borrow the working switches from other units. End up with 1 trackball and 1 mouse. Got cheap no-name rechargeable trackballs and been working great.

My favorite mouse for many, many years. What is the difference with this S model though?

I recently got a trackball mouse and I'm having trouble with the transition from regular vertical mouse to trackball. The ball seems overly "spinny" and inaccurate, though I know it's my unfamiliarity.
Any tips for a new trackball user to get acclimated?

Get a better one. The mx ergo.
I also bought this one on sale thinking as a back up to the mx ergo. but returned it after a few second of use. It lacks too much features include on the fly DPI adjust and vertical stand. End up buying another mx ergo instead

This vs. MX Ergo S - does the latter justify a much higher price?

give a quality "vertical" mouse a try. my friend had difficulty transitioning from regular mouse to thumball, and she finally settled on that slanted design in order to suffer less hand and wrist stress from long hours of computer work.

personally, i've been using thumballs for 20 years and would not want to go back to regular mice. i keep both styles working at my desk, on the off chance someone else needs to use my computer, who may find using a thumball disorienting.

I think the answer is "yes" enough that I've bought 3 of them. (Multiple workstations, multiple sites.)

The ergonomics are better and the dynamic adjustments (angle and DPI) are great. But the former is enough for me.

This deal is good for a backup, but I prefer the Ergo MX over this. The ProtoArc is the next best backup. Generally better than this deal, but has more issues - prone to fail USB port and crappy wireless reliability. I have a few of those too.

I've had Logitech trackballs for over 25 years now and have had zero issues with my thumb. I've been on a computer a large portion of those 25 years, using the mouse for gaming and programming/work.

Once you get used to it, most of your thumb movements are very small and very light.

I have the non S version ($30 on sale) and it's definitely a solid trackball mouse that's fairly comfortable to use. I've tried the MX Ergo and while it is better for adjustments and comfort, this is still a good mouse. If you think you might need to change the angle or position of the mouse, then get the MX Ergo.

Yes. All these do is move RSI from the wrist to the thumb, IMHO. The best thing to do is use a regular vertical mouse with a light touch in my experience. I use a vertical mouse at work and a touchpad at home to keep things varied.
How long did you use one before you developed problems? If you haven't, then your opinion is null and void. Respectfully.

I've used one for several weeks before developing RSI of the lower thumb area. Not sure how you got from my post where I said "in my experience" that I had no personal experience. Respectfully.

I wonder if people who don't have problems don't use it excessively in, say, a heavy CAD environment where RSI originally develops--or are just under 30 where it literally doesn't matter because you can use anything.

If you want a trackball I think a fingerball is infinitely better. Like the Kensington Expert (though I wouldn't use it in the intended orientation with that terrible wrist rest).

Maybe try turning down the tracking/mouse speed on your computer until you are more accustomed, then slowly ramp it up to a comfortable but productive 'final' speed?? I can't think of anything else other than just spending time with it.

Been using this style since they first came out, the old white with red ball and a cord, late 90s?. Never had a thumb issue. Did heavy duty data entry (with no tab to get to next box), lots of photoshop for logos freestyle drawing, etc. Even sim type games. Never had a problem.

Been using for decades and still do... (keep a spare new one on hand always), thats how much I use and love it. I do occasionaly get some thumb numbness or such but nothing I would ever stop using it over, very minimal. For me on a large 43" screen these are must haves.
