This is only for rethreading damaged right-hand threads, not to put new threads on harded steel. Other sizes available. Some at similar prices or much higher than this price. 4.5 to 5.0 customer rating. Seems like a decent repair tool. Century drill & tool company, est'd 1940.

1/2"-20 is not a common thread size. 1/2-13 is the common 1/2" thread size people commonly see. 1/2-20 is the fine thread variant of 1/2" threads. 1/2-20 is not very useful size for most people but the price is good.

Good point. Carbon steel dies are usually a rolled thread and only good for chasing threads. A High Speed Steel (HSS) die usually has ground threads and are capable of cutting new threads from round stock. Now that you pointed this out I'd say the price is not good for a single rolled thread die. Harbor Freight sells tap and die sets that would be a much better value with more common sizes.

Not a bad deal if you specifically need 1/2"-20, but as litesdsd points out it's not a super common size. If you need something to have around the shop for the occasional stripped bolt, better off getting one of the many thread chasing kits on the market that'll have most of the common sizes.

Used a similar metric one for impact gun damaged exh. flange studs. Seemed to work pretty well , but some of the new replacement nuts went on with some binding even though I greased the studs. I was concerned about removing material and/or additional damage that a threading die might cause. Paid like $8 for a m10 x 1.25 . Pretty sure it was from the U.S. mfr.
