My kids and I learned to play an actual guitar on the Xbox with Rocksmith. I wouldn't waste time with this toy personally.
I believe I was grandfathered in to the rivals expansion when I bought a used physical disc a year or so ago (at the time I believe rivals was free when you inserted a physical copy). I also noticed this correlated with the price of the physical disc doubling in price (20->40) second hand. Hot tip: many bigger used video game shops still have it labeled at $20 from a year ago if you can find a copy in one. I saw 4 like this the other day.
