I got these without the cover long ago. They work fine for cheap scissors. Just don't have too much expectation compared to more expensive ones.

You could use it as an herb stripper. Or possibly as a comb to clean off the blade.

Not sure if either of those are the intention though.

Other scissors sometimes have an herb stripper integrated in between the handles (sort of where the nut cracker is on this one).

It would also be good also for keeping the sheath more upright and accessible in your apron pocket.
