Playing through it now and it's not as difficult as some reviews make it sound, so don't let that deter you. Although I haven't finished the game, but doubt it ramps up exponentially.

Did you lower the difficulty? They only recently added a lower difficulty setting. There used to only be a standard setting, and then a harder setting when you beat it. The standard setting wasn't HARD hard, but it did have a bit of a challenge to it. You really had to make your shots count. Then there were multiple parts where there was a difficulty spike and you had to really stay on the move. Wait til you get to the last boss. It's a big difficulty spike. I beat him first try, but barely.

Yes, it is slow and very like original Dead Space. I was playing the remake and couldn't get into it that much for whatever reason. This game is a lot better than I anticipated, but not revolutionary as some reviews have made it out to be.

I'm playing the standard. Wanted to see what the fuss was about. Much ado about nothing as it turns out. Supplies are limited, but just don't miss too many shots and make use of environments. Lots of checkpoints and save points so you can just die and restart if you don't like initial encounters.
