Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a stylish turn based RPG with action game timing, built around parries, dodges, and a fresh combat twist. The story, music, and visuals draw strong praise, and the game is described as packed with content, with runs stretching past 60 hours. The main caveat is that the battle rhythm and story pacing can feel repetitive, confusing, or slow to click, especially if RPGs are not your thing. At $24.49, it looks like a strong value for players who want a cinematic RPG with skill based combat.

Crazy idea, but I figured asking everyday people on this forum about their thoughts about it rather than watch a paid shill gush about it.
Why does slickdeals even have a comment section? I assume it's mostly because they wanted people to go to other sites to get info on the product rather than discuss in this forum. /s

I think this is a great forum for "what do you think of this product / game / etc.?"

On the other hand, "Is this game like Cyberpunk 2077" is more of an objective question that one could easily find the answer to elsewhere.

Also too many people in these comments don't seem to get the Big Lebowski references floating around. And that's a bummer, man.

this "GOTY" game is losing steam fast; it's giving that Marvel Midnight Sun vibe.

I liked this game a lot. Haven't really been able to get into a jrpg styled turn based game in a while but this definitely had a fresh take on it. The story is pretty good too.

I have the feeling that one isn't supposed to reference links in posts - at least that what I think I got cautioned on by Slickdeals. That said, a site that tracks game prices lists risks associated with various merchants, and for Loaded, it had 1 risk: That the majority of keys for Clair Obscur from Loaded did not come from the company that owns the title. Thus, inferring that it's possible to get 'grey market' keys. The upshot of which is there's a chance that they won't activate on Steam, or may function initially but can't necessarily be counted on in the longer run. Quite like the Windows or Microsoft Office 'lifetime keys' that usually run about $10 to $20, but are OEM rather than retail keys, or worse. The Clair Obscur keys might work just fine, but if not, you don't necessarily have recourse from Loaded to make good on your purchase. There are worse vendors, with mutiple such 'risks' than Loaded, if that eases your mind.
People have been spreading this nonsense for like 20 years. Do you really think game companies have had this issue for such a long time and just think "dam, someone stole thousands of $ from us, we'll just let it happen". I have used nearly every single website on AKS for almost 20 years and only had 1 issue where someone was trying to sell beta keys as the full game, still got a refund.

This game is absolute art. If you're the type that skips character dialogue and cut scenes or plays with the sound off, don't bother. Otherwise, enjoy one of the best games turn-based RPGs ever.
The dragging story is what really turned me away from it. So many leads and no explanation till towards the end.

People saying it's amazing are also just sharing an opinion. All the people who think it's the best game in years just keep ganging up on people who don't like it. This game's fanbase is obnoxious.
weird that you claim "the game's fanbase is obnoxious" while every comment here praising the game is heavily down voted, lol.

Have to agree to disagree overall. I do agree that it takes some hours to get invested in the story and the lore, and it doesn't have to be for everybody. If it doesn't hook you after 3-5 hours (which is less than 1/5 of the game), then it's just not for you.

Very fun game, however I do think they got the difficulty curve wrong in terms of parry timing. For most of the game, it felt very easy parry most enemies, then towards the end it just spiked with very obnoxious/unnatural timings and patterns. Still a lot of fun and worth buying, especially at this price.

Yeah they poked fun at themselves at this in the DLC. They made random gestural fight a joke where he pretends to attack with applause and cheers if you guess (and it's entirely guessing!) right. Best thing anyone can do about parrying is listen for the audio cue instead of looking at the attack. It's normally parry within a second of the audio cue or rarely 1 to 2 seconds after. Wonderful story about grief that will stick with me for years. Cannot recommend it enough even my complaints on the parry system.

Honestly, I've never played it. LOL

I'm usually not into RPGs. Will this change my mind?
No. The fighting can get repetitive and frustrating dodging all the time with same actions. It has cinematic scenes, but Final Fantasy VII is what makes people who's usually not into RPG get into those games.

I grew up on turn based rpgs, some of my favorite games ever are turn based rpgs. Maybe I've changed; I havent played them in a long time. I was hoping to fall in love with this but so far I haven't after 10h, and im kind of upset with myself lol. Music and visuals are beautiful, premise is very intriguing, im just trying to get back into enjoying the gameplay loop of the battle system

I spent so much time in this. I got into it way later, after the last DLC came out. From late December to late Feb, this game consumed my free time. Beat all the bosses, grabbed all the pictos, all the records, basically everything I could do in the game. Beat the endless tower, all the new endless tower bosses, did it all.
Was way worth the $20 I paid for it on XBox
