If you are worried about 3rd parties getting access to your DNA why not simply use John Doe as your name and other anonymous data? No one is forcing you to use your actual information. What am I missing?

It is not your name that you should concern . It is your unique genetic code . You can lie about your name but not the genetic. If FBI match your name with a cold case ( your distant cousin ) . There is always a paper trail lead back to you.

But if that's the only evidence they have a good lawyer will get you off (the charges). I'm also not going to care what happens with my DNA once I'm dead. Maybe they can use it to make clones of me, the world will be a better place. 😂

You're not giving your DNA to the government.

You ARE giving it to the Mormon church, however.

Your naive if you think the government can't get it.

They are owned by private equity- they would literally never give something to the government by choice. While I can't speak on ancestry practices if you look at 23andme they are more likely sell your de-identified information to pharm companies so they can make new drugs, which if you're an underrepresented group could mean more developed drugs for you.

Anyway comments on your banking to forget to cancel your subscription are directionally right for PE firms.

If you're curious about your ancestry and family tho this is the place to do it. I've seen so many testimonials on the impactful connection this test has made for people.

Surprised this isn't more well known. It's literally how ancestry. Com started. So they could baptize entire family trees

Not as worried about the gov, but they are not HIPAA compliant storing what are effectively health records

You're only getting three months at this price. Their goal is to sucker people in and hope they forget to cancel the full-price subscription. For example: "Your All Access subscription will automatically renew at $149 every 3 months until you cancel by visiting your Account Settings or by contacting us."
no i think end game is to sell your dna data. this subscription is just icing. why would anyone subscribe to dna service? once it's sequenced, you know it. that's why they make it nearly impossible to get the serviced anonymously.
