great watch, I've had it for a few years now. battery life is fantastic; I went on a long weekend trip (thu-tue) and forgot my charger but still came home with a out 40% left even after going on multiple runs.

you'd think it would be closer to the 970 but missing too many things

personally I think the Fenix E would be a better value but can't afford either

neither has ECG, only the 970 / Fenix8

actually there is one benefit to the 965 vs 970, the 965 has twice the RAM memory

(this means apps run better or more of them)

but if you can live without 5 physical buttons, oddly the Venu 3 / 3s might be the best Garmin value right now as factory refurbished around $280, it has maximum memory AND ecg

Grabbed one, then cancel when I realized it's not the 970. That one has the LED.

Got a 965 like an year ago when it was sale + rebate on Kohl's. It was like $340 after all. No complaint at all for the price. The 970 is a bit faster, support phone call, and has an LED that I would never ever use. The only thing I am missing is phone call function but I would not pay almost $300 for that.

Great price for the 965 but the 970 is $200 more after those health discounts if you can swing it
The 965 is essentially just a amoled 955 so it's not a big jump
Either way.. My 255 is still working great... No need yet.. Must resist...

Any soccer referees out there use this? I currently have the 245 and love it, and wondering if this is worth the upgrade.

I'm still waiting for the killer feature that convinces me to let go of my MIP screen (Forerunner 255). I have multi-band GPS, HR that is accurate enough for my purposes, all the activities I need (including ultimate frisbee), advanced sleep, body battery, training/load focus, VO2 max, and HRV. The MIP screen gives me great visibility in sunlight and 7-10 days of always-on battery life (depending on how many GPS activities I do) after almost three years of constant use.

I tried the FR 265 back in 2023 and sold it after four months to go back to the 255 for battery life and screen visibility in sunlight.

I really wish Garmin specialized their product lines more. Non-fitness features like AMOLED/MicroLED screens and phone calls from the device feel more appropriate for the Venu line and "premium" versions of FR and fenix. If they released a new FR model with a MIP screen and minor fitness- and health-focused upgrades like training readiness and skin temperature for $350-400, I'd buy it immediately.

All that said: if I were buying an AMOLED model right now, I'd get this one. I strongly prefer buttons over touch screens for interaction (so Venu is out), I think the FR 570/970 models are significantly overpriced for features, and the 965 has much better battery life than the 265 (as well as full maps support). Just kinda sucks to spend $400 on a three year old device.

Definitely. Good watch but I wouldn't get another Garmin watch without the flashlight.
