Not sure why but this is the most common purifier listed on Facebook Marketplace. I assume it's just popular. Project Farm just did a thingy on air purifiers and it did very very well.
That said, if you want to be extra slick, buy them from Facebook Marketplace for like $50. Wipe it down and replace the filters and it's new again. They aren't complicated.

That's funny. I have one of these (and a Shuffle in a drawer somewhere) and can't believe I never noticed the resemblance before.

Thought it was a portable Apple Watch charger.

Yep popular. It's been recommended by both Wirecutter and Consumers Report.

In my experience, the coway's sensors detect better than winix's. My 2 winix rarely react to the smells from the kitchen

Sensors on consumer air purifiers are pretty (read: competley) worthless. If you care get a discrete particle detector with a reputable sensor. I got a $50 one off aliexpress like 8 years ago that still works well enough, lol (only trust it because it was using a known laser sensor unit at the time--no idea what current models there are).

Winix won that but only because the Coway he tested was over $200 at the time. AP-1512HH

I am not sure about sensors, someone else also commented but in my cases I like to have the control of the fan rather than rely on sensors, sometimes they start going off crazy, so I prefer to control, but for some people if they won't be home and they assume there will be some change in air quality I guess it's workable.

Did you eliminate the source? In my opinion most room air purifiers do jack-sh*t when it comes to (completely eliminating) strong smells, including food, smoking, cat poop stench, or any other heavy odors unless those odors have some huge particles or there is a way to trap them. They do fine when you have something like Coway 400 or anything that claims to purifier more than 2000sqft and Coway 400 has 2 sets of filters, even then it does not completely get rid of the the smell but reduces it greatly. So you have to go much bigger (at least in my experience) to help with smell, and as long as smell does not have a continuous source.

We also need to consider replacement filter cost w/Winix vs Coway when deciding between this and the winner 5500-2 or 5510/5520 or this Coway...

The Conway is well reviewed and this is a decent price vs normal retail. HOWEVER, if you care more about FUNCTION than form (i.e. prettiness), you can make your own air purifier with a $20 box fan and 3M Filtrete filter for a grand total of maybe $40 tops, which actually will have more air flow and thus more effectiveness: https://youtu.be/YnIvLBe6xUE

PS. Added bonus: you don't get continually price gouged for replacement filters! The 3M filters are very reasonably priced vs OEM filters.

Yup but not nearly as well as the Winix. My friends have the big 350 or 400 from Conway and it seems pretty good.
