Edit— just saw that you have a Jaguar, but it might be relevant still.
Why? Because Leo made these modular and inexpensive to make, so parts would be cheap. Now you pay for extra for labels and shapes. Sure it's you're right to over pay. Enjoy.
This is Fender vainly jacking up prices in your mind. If a "authentic" neck is $300 then how much more for a whole guitar? A trick. Ranging you.
You should know on Slick Deals, the lowest cost guitars are the best. It's all smoke and mirrors. And yes you should learn to setup your own; because it's to your playing style.
This idea of making a killing off of signature guitars and such hides the losses. It's not a small business career. However, a fool is born everyday.
It's sad to see the Classic Fender name playing games this way. Make a better product and/or service at an expert (and CNC) low mass produced price or go home. The world is calling and free market will out. Try a $59 eBay guitar and you'll see. Or $89 with a humbucker mix, like super strat.
