Community Reviews

This official Xbox Wireless controller stands out mainly for its unusually low $38.99 price, with the community treating it as far below the usual cost for a brand new Xbox pad. The Shock Blue model is the standard official option, and the same price is also listed for the red version elsewhere. The main caution is durability, with reports of stick drift and softer ABXY buttons over time, though another unit has been used as a main controller without drift. A strong price on a familiar first party controller, but long term wear remains the big question.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. Official Xbox controllers are described as almost never dropping below $55, and this price is called unusually low for a brand-new controller. It is also described as the best price likely to be seen for a new Xbox controller.

  • Stick drift is reported on some units, and cleaning the stick mechanism did not fix it in one case. Another comment says a main-use controller has never developed drift, so durability appears to vary by unit and handling.

  • No improvement is confirmed in the comments. The RB/LB peg issue is still being raised, with one shopper specifically asking whether the bumper peg problem has been addressed after breaking the LB peg again.

  • Yes. The ABXY buttons can become less sensitive over time, eventually requiring harder presses to register, and replacing the membrane does not fix the issue.

  • Yes. The red version is reported to be available on Lenovo's site for the same price.

Can't go back to controllers without Hall Effect or TMR sticks. They cost more, but at least they last a lot longer with more features and better build quality. Rather save up and get something like the Flydigi Vader 5 Pro.

All of my Xbox controllers have suffered from drift. I've tried fixing by replacing the sensors but that varies in effectiveness.
What are Hall effect sticks?
They use magnets to detect position on the stick. Basically, they are drift-proof from what I know. But I think TMR sticks are currently the best.

Free stick drift included..no coupon needed
Yeah I have a rarely used Xbox controller with nasty stick drift. I'm debating buying another or just getting a 2 for 20 Chinese knockoff. They both last about the same.

Not only do these stick drift, but eventually the ABXY buttons become less sensitive. Normally they activate when the membrane "clicks in," but over time you have to press harder past that point to get them to work.
Replacing the membrane doesn't fix it. Just not a good product.

I have one of these as my main and have never had stick drift. Maybe don't throw your controllers at the wall when you rage?

I missed the days of replacing controllers.Cause it was a cooler controller. Not because the c*** that came with the system breaks every four months. Atari twenty six hundred nintendo, super nintendo playstation playstation. Two all of those none of em ever ever had a controller break, no matter what you did to em.

Don't forget the 360 controllers that the grip disintegrates on the analog sticks but otherwise works fine.
