Wyze Cam Pan v4 stands out for sharp 4K viewing, solid motion tracking, and a built in spotlight that makes yard monitoring easier. Setup is described as quick, and the app still covers the same core controls even with a different interface. The camera also adds Wi Fi 6 support while staying on 2.4 gigahertz, and local storage remains a draw. Main drawbacks are laggy app performance, occasional setup and connectivity failures, and lingering concerns about Wyze pushing subscriptions and dropping older firmware support. A capable pan camera if those tradeoffs are acceptable.
people upgrading for clearer yard coverage who specifically want a wider view from a pan camera because commenters said the pan lets them watch way more of the yard and they like the 4K view (post_ids: [183069240,183089184])
home security watchers who want to set up quickly and rely on motion tracking because commenters said setup was a breeze and the motion tracking "works well enough" even if app controls feel a bit wonky (post_ids: [183047322])
owners who plan to use local SD storage and a low-cost subscription option because one commenter said the main selling point was local storage and they only use a Cam Plus plan for their main Pan Cam v4 (post_ids: [183090705])
buyers who are okay troubleshooting firmware/app quirks and may benefit from newer beta updates because one commenter said it "sucked" at first but the most recent beta firmware fixed lots of issues and they're running two with great picture quality (post_ids: [183069240])
households that already have other Wyze cameras and want a mostly plug-and-play replacement because the v4 still uses micro USB, which commenters said makes it easier to replace an older version without running a new cable (post_ids: [183048417])
buyers who rely on RTSP/local-storage workflows without paying for Wyze's subscription because commenters said Wyze stopped providing RTSP firmware to push subscriptions and that they prefer RTSP/local-storage cameras without a monthly fee (post_ids: [183080991,183071847,183053961])
people who are sensitive to Wyze's history of bricking older hardware because commenters said Wyze bricked older hardware (including a v1 firmware update that they said couldn't be reverted) and that they won't buy Wyze after that (post_ids: [183043005,183069153])
buyers who are specifically looking for a dependable pan v4 experience because at least one commenter called the pan v4 a "pile of crap" and another said v4 reviews cite poor reliability/buggy software (post_ids: [183081153,183046524])
buyers who are worried about long-term reliability and app performance because multiple commenters reported worsening performance over time, "abysmal" live viewing/recordings even with local SD, and recurring prompts to buy the cloud subscription (post_ids: [183048774])
people who need every camera to connect reliably because commenters said some units never connect, later become "dead," and even new/reformatted SD cards can't be read by the camera (post_ids: [183056574])
buyers who want a smooth out-of-the-box experience because one commenter said they bought two units, couldn't keep either set up, spent hours with tech support and log reports, and ultimately returned them (post_ids: [183049170])
Wyze did brick the original V1 camera with a firmware update, and the company is also criticized for pushing subscriptions and removing RTSP on some models. That history makes some shoppers prefer Tapo or Reolink instead.
Some units reportedly fail to stay set up, drop offline, or never connect, and SD cards may not be readable in the camera even after formatting. Others report stable operation, so reliability appears to depend on the unit and firmware.
It can record to a local SD card and still be used without a subscription, but the app may be slow or abysmal for live viewing and playback. Some users also report recurring prompts pushing the cloud subscription.
The Pan v4 adds 2.5K resolution instead of 1080p, a built-in spotlight, better sound pickup, and Wi‑Fi 6 support while still using 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi. It also keeps micro‑USB for easier replacement with existing cables.
Setup can be very easy, and the camera can deliver great image quality right away. The app controls are a bit wonky, but the motion tracking works well enough for everyday use.
I have slowly phased out of these cameras, I have purchased each generation but now have stopped. 4 cameras pop up right away, the other 4 never connect. I close app and then the other 4 show up and then now the other 4 are dead.... frustrating....sd cards are all new, reformatted, tested on computer but they can't be read on camera even with format...
Wyze started out good but went the route of nerfing their products and needing a subscription to get the full features of them. Some MBA idiots decided that companies need subscriptions to be successful anymore. My recommendation would be to go with Tapo or Reolink for comparable products that don't have this anti-consumer approach.
Wyze Camers suck. I have around 20 and they are mega slow sometimes when you to access them. Between instant and 20 seconds. Tapo seems much faster and also provides RTSP which Wyze discontinued with V3.
Dude just kept buying shit cameras that suck? Didnt you learn from the first 19 you bought? Gotta be a troll post

I don't know sometimes you get some product and you're like yeah this is working. And then you just buy like 10 more, and then you come to realize hey it it works it's just not as good as I want. This is believable. I mostly say this because I have about Five cameras and they work intermittently well. The ones Outdoors constantly go out, the ones in doors are generally okay.
Please explain. My V2's still work exactly as they did when I bought them several years ago. So NOT bricked and 100% usable.
So the thing about bricking old hardware is in regards to their v1 cam. Wyze pushed a firmware update that bricked them. They released a "fix" that was supposed to revert the firmware but didn't work and Wyze just ignored anyone who brought it up again.
For me, this was enough of an ordeal that I avoid Wyze and really only come to Wyze posts under the hopes that someone here throws out some random fix/use for the old bricked v1's.
It bothers me to no end to have a functional piece of equipment sitting doing nothing because some idiot developer(s) forgot how much memory was on the first generation of their product.
When this came out it sucked! Most recent beta firmware fixes lots of issues. I am running 2 of these. Great picture and with the pan I can watch way more yard. Grabbing 2 more thanks op.
I have multiple cameras, v2, v3, and v4 of stationary camera. Tempted to get this v4, but have more than I needed already, but tempted to see how it compares to pan v3.

Totally get and understand that detailed explanation, I didn't blame you for being upset and I can see how that would make someone not want to come back. My understanding, wasn't that firmware related to a major security issue on the V1 cams? If that was the case, wouldn't that be a cause to want to replace the cams for most people? I see A LOT of people here on SD complain about Wyze's security lapses through time, though some like myself aren't really bothered by those issues. Wyze from my perspective has a tenancy to not listen to their customers if it doesn't affect their bottom line or livelihood.

Totally agree. They succeeded with the no subscription model initially but which they eventually killed as they were not making much money once they sold their cameras. So their cameras as useless unless you are willing to pay subscription. My current no subscription choice is Tapo.
