Apparently if you have an LG TV you don't need the sync box because there's an app for it on the tv, is that true? Can other tvs do the same?

App still costs money tho, it isnt free. I have an LG tv

I believe Philips offers both a one time payment ($130ish) or a subscription ($3 monthly). One subscription/purchase is tied to one tv so you can't just buy the app once and share it across multiple TVs as far as I understand. You do need the hue hub for the app to work. Haven't heard how well the app works compared to the sync box though.

A friend of mine bought the app and it was awful. The lag was very noticeable compared to even the gen 1 sync box. He ended up buying the new 8k sync box and it works great. I'm still running a gen 1 sync box but when the time comes I'll go either the 8k box instead of the app

I think it's only for the C4s and up cause I have a C3 and it's not available for me

This is true. The lag bothers some people more than others. I couldn't stand it. I have 2 4k boxes and an 8k. They all work much better than the app imo.
