This 7 inch fillet and boning knife is being used as a sharp, well balanced trimming tool for brisket, BBQ meats, and other precise cuts. The high carbon stainless blade is described as very sharp out of the box, with good heft and a comfortable handle, and the same line is said to hold an edge well. The main caution is that it is not flexible, so it suits deboning and meat trimming better than fish work. The listing is also criticized as misleading about Japanese origin, since the knife is made in China and the steel is framed as Japanese. High carbon care matters too, because rust is a concern without washing, drying, and oiling.

  • The knife can be very sharp out of the box and can work well for trimming meats like brisket and steaks.

  • The knife can have good weight and balance, which can help with controlled slicing and prep work.

  • The discount appears to apply at checkout, which can lower the final purchase price.

  • The knife can be useful for deboning and precise cuts, including saving hide during butchering.

  • The listing can be misleading about Japanese origin, since the product is reported as made in China.

  • The knife can rust because high carbon steel is prone to corrosion without careful washing, drying, and oiling.

  • The knife may be less flexible for fish, since it is described as not flexible and more suited to finesse trimming.

  • The deal can feel like a non-discount because price history reportedly shows it staying near the same level and being regularly on sale.

Knfie like this good for field dressing a deer or elk? It's my 1st year big game hunting.
Could you? Yes. This is more a finesse type of knife.
For large game this will be more useful for deboning, precise cuts, and if you trying to save the hide

Thank you to those who pointed out the scammy nature of this deal, both in labeling and in pricing. I almost fell for it, assuming to receive a Japanese knife. This is no bueno...😒
I've recently purchased several made in China kitchen knives and I like some of them more than my German and Japanese knives. This knife uses 10Cr15CoMoV, which is pretty similar to VG10 - a premium knife steel. China produces about half of the steel in the world, all of it from state of the art blast furnaces. China has more than 250 SOA blast furnaces vs 12 or so 50+year old blast furnaces in the US. Yes, there is crappy steel in China. There is also crappy steel in Japan, Germany and the US. Knives are two-piece products: blade+handle. I do not own this one, but I also do not fear knives simply because they were forged (or stamped) and ground in China from made-in-China steel. All should choose as their politics and wallets allow

What makes this "japanese"? Also how did this make it to FP?
That it says it's Japanese, and secretly made in China by their best blacksmiths.

These knives may very well be fine. My comment is that a reputable seller does not need to pretend that a product comes from one country when, in fact, it comes from another, with generally lower quality standards. That, on its own, I might have overlooked, but the additional gaming with the retail price vs sale price (with a regular discount of close to 50%) just screams "STAY AWAY".

Every single front page deal is PAID ADVERTISEMENT. So how did this make it to FP... well, the company contacted SD.net and inquired about how to advertise on their website and how much money that will cost, from their they agreed and ... and we got this advertisement.

Any other questions?

It says it is made in China once you receive the product.

The style is a Japanese fish knife. There is a big difference between a japanese fishing knife and a american fishing knife. Japanese style are very rigid and american style is very flexible.

Stating that it is Professional Japanese Fish Knives for Meat Poultry Cutting MEANS that it is a very hard blade that has no flex. It refers to the style of the blade not where the blade was made.

The blade is made in CHINA... cause it says so.

But I completely agree with you... this add misleads you to believe it is made in Japan. And Japan has some very good steel, unlike China. The blame... IMHO, belongs with Amazon for allowing these types of adds that are very miss leading.

Doesn't seem to claim anywhere, unless i am missing it, that it's made in Japan.

Excellent Chinese knifes. Don't know why it says Japanese in the title and has a dumb Japanese name. Japanese didn't learn how to make a good knife from the Chinese until the 2nd millennium.

I guess the average American consumers are pretty dull. Can't appreciate a good Chinese knife for what it is.
The name is Chinese, it's a play on words on the name of one of the leading organized crime triads Wo Shing Wo. It'd be like someone named a knife brand "YaCUTza"

The description says 'made from high-quality Japanese stainless steel 10Cr15CoMoV,' but this only refers to the material (or a Chinese equivalent), NOT the place of manufacture. This product is NOT 'Made in Japan' and the branding is misleading. The product is actually Made in China by a Chinese company.
